A total of 35 students from Class VII were invited by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, to celebrate the National Girl Child Day on 24 January , 2019 at Pravasi Bharti Kendra, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
Students along with two teachers witnessed the celebration, which started with the felicitation of performing states and districts for their initiatives and achievements made under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ scheme by the Union Cabinet Minister, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi. Three women, chosen as the District champions, shared their experiences of fighting against the injustice faced by women in our society. This was followed by cultural performances – a song and a mime show highlighting the value of a girl child. Students were given refreshments and a kit consisting of a mug and a shirt. The event helped in sensitizing the students towards the need to protect and empower a girl child for a better society.
