BACK TO BASICS: Bamboo Drip Irrigation System

Water Conservation is the need of the hour and every drop of water counts. As a part of Water Conservation Activity, on October 21,2020 in the School garden,a new type of Drip Irrigation System using split bamboo with tiny holes was set up to water the potted plants. This idea was given by the Officiating Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and implemented by Ms Niva Chhonkar, Headmistress (VI-VIII)

Drip irrigation has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface. The goal is to place water directly into the root zone and minimize evaporation.Normally  plastic pipes/PVC pipes are used for Drip irrigation but bamboo was used here.

In the Summers,in case of less water availability, old bottles (one/two litres capacity) can be attached to this bamboo channel so that water is available uniformly
