“Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow ‘till you find your dream”
Amidst sparkling lights and a myriad of hues, The Annual Production of Delhi Public School R K Puram took place on 14 and 15 December 2018, wherein the timeless classic – ‘The Sound of Music’ was brought to life on the stage through an amalgamation of lilting voices and graceful dances accompanying adroit thespians.
The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, extended a warm welcome to those who had come to attend the play. Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Ms. Anita Singh and the Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra were also present on the occasion.
Clad in vivid ensembles, a troupe of actors put up a resplendent promenade to cordially welcome the audience with poetry and vaudeville pieces.
The school, put up a specially constructed stage, with exceptional lighting and sound effects and an LED screen portraying the backdrop of each scene. Coupled with live music and singing, the ambience was electrifying and provided the perfect environment for the adaptation of the play, which traces the life of Maria, a simple but courageous governess, who wins the hearts of the Von Trapp family. Despite being set in a world threatened by war, one is left with a feeling of optimism, and the tone of determination is clearly portrayed in the resilience shown by the Von Trapp family as it overcomes the tribulations it faces.
The Chief Guest for the first day was Mr. Pramod Grover, Vice Chairman, Managing Committee, DPS R K Puram, and the Hony Treasurer DPS Society. Special guests included the Founder Principal of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, Mr. Ram Sarup Lugani; Former Principals, Dr. Shayama Chona, and Dr. D. R. Saini; Former Vice Principal Ms. Deepa Raghavan as well as a number of former teachers.
The Chief Guest for the second day was Mr. V. K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society and Chairman Managing Committee, DPS R.K Puram, who was accompanied by Mrs. Shunglu. The other esteemed dignitaries who graced the occasion were – Prof. B.P. Khandelwal and Ms. Vrinda Sarup, Member, DPS Society and DPS RK Puram Managing Committee; Mr. Kaushik Datta, Member, DPS R K Puram Managing Committee; Ms. Zeenat Khader, Joint Secretary, DPS Society; Mr. Rahul Singh, Member, DPS Society; Ms. Meeta Rai, Principal, DPS Indirapuram and Ms. Bindu Sehgal, Principal, DPS Vasant Kunj. Special guests Mrs. and Mr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Abhijeet Ghosh also attended the event.
Mr. Shunglu addressed the audience, drawing attention to the growing importance of Fine Arts. He further expressed that the Fine Arts are neglected and considered a hobby, when they are, in actuality, so much more. He appreciated the talent of the students, calling them an asset of the school and congratulated them for putting up an ‘out of the world’ performance.
The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, in her Vote of Thanks, complimented the students and thanked them for making a dream come true. She added that putting up the Annual day had been a learning experience for everyone involved in the production. She called upon the Event Coordinators, Ms. Abha Chona, Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee, Ms. Sanya Taneja, Ms. Renu Bassi, and applauded them for the efforts they had put in. She also thanked the Art and Music Departments, along with every person who had worked so hard to make the show a phenomenal success.
The standing ovation, as well as the smile on the faces of the content audience, was a testament to the massive success of the event that left the school echoing with the sound of music.
