‘AAGAAZ 2013’ – An Inter School Indian Orchestra Competition

‘AAGAAZ 2013’ – an Inter school Indian Orchestra Competition was held at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on 9 May 2013. Sixteen schools from across Delhi participated in the competition.

The judges for the event were Ms. Reeta, Deputy Manager, HT PACE; Mr. Mahesh Prabhakar, composer of more than a thousand devotional albums produced by T-Series; and Ustad Akram Khan, the finest performer of tabla from the Ajara Gharana . The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini extended a warm welcome to all the guests and highlighted the school’s achievements in the field of music and other extra-curricular activities. Also present was Mrs.Pushpa Agarwal, Vice Principal of DPS Shiksha Kendra and the coordinator of the programme. Mr.Kuldeep Mishra and Mr.Saleem Kumar from the Department of Music gave special training to our students.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and bouquets were presented to the honourable judges. The judges were welcomed with a song by Mallika Singh of class 11. The musical performances by all the participants were scintillating and left everyone enthralled.

The judges shared their views about all the presentations and emphasized the importance of music by pointing out that ‘Music is a very vast subject and helps in balancing one’s life.’

The much anticipated prize distribution followed with DPS R.K.Puram sweeping the awards, winning the first prize in the orchestra and solo category. However, being the host, they did not accept the prizes and so the first prize was passed on to Vasant Valley School for orchestra and DPS Dwarka for the solo category. The second and third prizes in the category of Orchestra group were bagged by DPS Mathura Road and Gyan Bharti School respectively and in the Solo category by Bal Bharti and Montfort School. The first prize in the instrumental category was bagged by Amity School, Saket , Vasant Valley and DPS Mathura Road receiving the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Vasant Valley won the rolling trophy.

The event was truly an enriching experience for all the students and provided a wonderful opportunity to put their skills to test.
