Outspoken 2025

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted its Annual Inter-School debating competition, Outspoken, on 23rd August 2025 and 3rd September 2025. The event was organized by DEBSOC, the English Debating Society of DPS R.K. PURAM. The event saw enthusiastic participation by students from 17 schools across Delhi NCR. The preliminary round took place on 23 August 2025, while the quarters, semi-finals, and finals took place on 3 September 2025. The top eight schools with the maximum cumulative points under the Conventional and Turncoat categories advanced to the elimination round.

The debates on both days were adjudicated by a prestigious panel of judges from Pratarka Education, an educational organisation that trains students in academic and extra-academic curricula. The panel included Mr. Aayush Bermola, Mr. Vishesh Alpuria, Mr. Kshitij Mangal, Mr. M. Navakanth, Ms. Manasvi Pradhan, Mr. Samarth Chopra, Mr. Anshuman Mishra, Ms. Deeksha Chakraborty, and Ms. Smriti Anand.

The preliminary rounds followed the Conventional and Turncoat Debating formats, while the later rounds were conducted in the Asian Parliamentary Debate (APD) style. All formats assessed speakers based on manner, matter, and method, with the weightage varying by format.

In the Conventional format, motions were announced in advance. The Turncoat format featured motions released 3 minutes prior, requiring participants to speak for both Proposition and Opposition for one minute each. In APD, the motions were given 30 minutes before the debate, and stances were decided by a coin toss. The debate consisted of six main speeches (6 minutes each) and two reply speeches (4 minutes each).

All the debates saw neck-to-neck competition between teams. All participants gave exemplary performances  and showcased their amazing debating skills on the given issues. The participants were made to debate on a wide variety of topics, ranging from the Glorification of Non-Conformity, Government Rent Support vs government-provided housing, to the domination of Western outlook in Global South narratives.

The schools that qualified for the second day were DPS RK Puram, Bluebells International School, DPS Mathura Road, Mother’s International School, DPS Vasant Kunj, DPS Rohini, Mayoor School, Noida, and DPS Noida. DPS RK Puram and Bluebells International School clashed in the grand finale – in a memorable debate.

The event came to a close with an address by the esteemed Principal, Shri Anil Kumar. He emphasised the importance of staying up to date with the happenings in our  dynamic world. The halls resounded with applause as the winners were then announced and awarded.

The day came to a close on a patriotic note, with a rendition of the National Anthem.
