TOPIC: “TOGETHER WE RISE- CELEBRATING INCLUSIVITY AT DPS”
“WE’RE NOT MEANT TO BE THE SAME BUT TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER”
“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognise, accept, and celebrate those differences.” –Audre Lorde (Writer)
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the students of classes XII-S and XII-T presented their class assembly, where they came together, acknowledged their differences, and learnt to accept and appreciate them. While our differences give us a sense of identity and help us feel special, we can embrace them without making others feel alienated. The significance of the message of this assembly, which is being aware of how all humans are made equal, is profound. The students emphasised the importance of interpersonal relationships, inclusivity and friendship.
The Assembly commenced with a reverent prayer, ‘Subah savere leke tera naam prabhu’ performed by Garima, Ishi, Aritri, Aishani, Aashni, Malvika, Samiya, Bhavishya, Aryan Jha, Raunak, and Hari Bala. This was followed by the introduction, containing a beautiful poem with an intimate touch, ‘Come- I saved you a seat’ by Aahana. A graceful dance, vandana, portraying gratitude, was performed by Jia, Diya, Aanandi and Mahira. Subsequently, Vaishnavi and Garima delivered a comprehensive speech to the audience, perfectly articulating the theme of the assembly.
A unique and realistic poem, ‘My classmates’, recited by Aashni, set the stage for the fascinating skit enacted by Ananya, Aishani, Kartikeya, Eshita, Nishtha, Pallvisha, Aritri, Yuvraj K, Divyaa, Keshav, Ridhi, Manas, Yuvraj S, Harshil, Krishiv, Dronn, and Giana. The play depicted a conflict between friends due to differences in decisions and preferences. It was coupled with the struggle of adjusting to the evolution of people around us. It started with students embracing their distinct choices, which was further enhanced by the wonderfully harmonious choir sung and instrumented by Pavni, Shreeya, Ishi, Ayang, Muskan, Darsh, Aryaman, Yuvraj K, Yuvraj S, Aritri, Aashni, Suhani, Vineet, Garima, Aayush, Supriya, Keshav, Aahana, Bhoomi, Vanshika, Kartikeya, and Pallvisha on the melodious and meaningful song ‘Safe and Sound’.
However, as the plot of the skit thickened, the students witnessed their friend groups collapsing due to these same choices. This conflict gave way to a powerful dance performed by Anushka, Rehhet, Maahira, and Supriya on a dramatic tune, which illustrated an impactful picture of our inner voices and our negative thoughts of self-doubt and insecurity. As the acceptance of the students’ choices by their friends was expressed, a passionate poem, ‘What fades away’, was delivered to the audience by Peyuli. After the restoration of peace, a poem rich with symbolism and metaphors, ‘Lilies and Roses’, was recited by Nishtha. This was followed by the coordinated and exciting dance performed by Anushka, Rehhet, Kartikeya, Keshav, Yuvraj S, Abhinav C, Abhinav K, Aryaman, Aayush, Darsh, Gayatri, Supriya, Maahira, Jia, Aishani, Manas, Aahana, Suhani, Shambhavi on a cheerful instrumental facilitating a phenomenal response from the audience which made for a perfect concluding act to the assembly.
The folders and invitation cards were creatively crafted by Gayatri and Anushka, while the board was splendidly decorated by Gayatri, Shreeya, Ridhi, Hari Bala and Giana. The digital presentation was drafted and presented by Shreeya, Ridhi, Aryaman, and Nyra. The compering was fluently done by Shreeya, Ridhi, Aryaman, and Giana. The incredible show culminated with the playing of the School Anthem, followed by the National Anthem. The class assembly of XII–S and XII–T captured the beauty of belongingness and inclusivity along with the heartfelt essence of friendship and accepting others as our companions, not despite their differences but with their differences.
