The ASSET workshop, held on 12th December 2024, was a transformative initiative designed to equip teachers with innovative tools and strategies to improve teaching practices and foster holistic student development. The workshop, which was attended by English, Mathematics and Science teachers of DPS Vasant Vihar, DPS (EOK) and DPS R.K. Puram, underscored the significance of diagnostic assessments in identifying learning gaps, addressing misconceptions, and implementing skill-based education. Teachers were trained to utilize the techniques of benchmarking and skill analysis to understand learning dynamics, align instructions with NCF 2023 guidelines and design actionable plans for improvement.
In English, the focus was on addressing weaknesses in grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and contextual understanding. Teachers were introduced to strategies such as competency-based questions, tailored practice sets, and reflective exercises. Tools like “A Question a Day” and “Misconception Posters” were highlighted to encourage critical thinking and address recurring errors, such as the misuse of adjectives with countable and uncountable nouns. The sessions emphasized cascading training to foster collective growth within schools.
The session on Science primarily focused on building clear concepts using diagnostic assessments. Teachers explored the idea of “cognitive conflict,” where students are encouraged to rethink their misconceptions through engaging discussions. They were shown how to use learning data to redesign lessons and create opportunities for deeper understanding. The session also encouraged the use of inquiry-based activities to make classes more interesting and thought-provoking.
In Mathematics, the workshop helped teachers understand how students think and solve problems. It addressed misconceptions by encouraging students to question and reflect on their reasoning. Teachers learned to create questions that promote interactive learning and help students explain their thought processes, leading to better understanding of concepts.
Overall, the workshop highlighted data-driven teaching as a cornerstone for effective education. Teachers were encouraged to integrate diagnostic tools into everyday practices, use insights from performance data to guide instruction, and implement competency-based education to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By fostering collaborative planning and reflective teaching methods, the ASSET workshop empowered teachers to create impactful learning experiences, ensuring well-rounded and confident learners.
