The Scholar Badge ceremony for Class XII was held on 4th November, 2022 at Delhi Public School R. K. Puram. This highly anticipated day is an occasion to recognize those students who have excelled in academics and co-curricular activities during the previous academic year.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr V.K. Shunglu – Chairman of DPS Society and the Managing Committee DPS RK Puram. The Principal – Ms Padma Srinivasan, Vice Principals – Mr Naresh Miglani, Mr Anil Kumar Kathuria and Mr Mukesh Kumar, the Headmistresses – Ms Rashmi Malhotra and Ms Vinita Gupta, and the special guests, Mr. and Mrs. Basoya, and Mr and Mrs. Suri graced the occasion with their presence.
The Scholar Badge Ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The scintillating beats of the Indian classical orchestra played live by the students of the Performing Arts Society captivated the audience. The mesmerizing symphony started off the most awaited event on an auspicious note.
The Principal felicitated the Chief Guest, following which a short movie showcasing the accomplishments and accolades of DPS R. K. Puram and its students during the academic year 2021-22 was played. The movie presented the audience a glimpse of the year gone by: highlighting noteworthy achievements, events, seminars, workshops and competitions and the multitude of activities that students at DPS R. K. Puram engaged and excelled in.
After extending a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and the special guests, the Principal addressed the scholars. She began by stating that the final year of schooling has seen students scale greater heights, but the best is yet to come. She cautioned that distractions must be avoided and students must concentrate on achieving their goals. She underlined the commitment of the teaching community to help each learner achieve their chosen target. Ms Srinivasan especially lauded the efforts of the scholar badge recipients who performed well in the offline examinations, although the academic year was online. She concluded her speech by saying, “Never rest until you have achieved your best!”
The school choir took the stage to render an original composition, complemented by a live piano performance. It was followed by a classical Odissi performance. Adorned in traditional colourful clothes, the resplendent dancers lit up the stage with their grace and rhythm.
The Chief Guest, Mr V.K. Shunglu addressed the gathering and spoke on how the student community has been severely disadvantaged by the inadequacy of virtual schooling during the pandemic, and suggested that greater focus must be placed on writing skills. He particularly mentioned that students should be wary of falling into the trap of limiting themselves into doing ‘less and less of more and more’ as they grow. He appealed to the students to continue exploring their cultural and musical interests as he felt that it may serve as a ‘safety valve’ later in their lives, and as a source of catharsis during stressful times.
The prestigious award ceremony was conducted by the representatives of class XII, Ms. Richa Aggarwal, Dr. Anubha Gopal and Ms. Vibha Arora. Students were commended for their consistent efforts and resilience in the form of badges, blazers and gold medals. In all, 165 Gold Medals were awarded for academic excellence in 7 consecutive years, 51 Blue Blazers were awarded for academic excellence in the last 3 years, and 99 First Green Badges were awarded for academic excellence in Grade 11.
