With the onset of the summer vacation, Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a series of fun-filled and enjoyable Summer Delight Activities. Under the able guidance of the esteemed Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and initiated and supported by the Supervisor of Classes VI-VIII, Ms Vinita Gupta, the activities comprised of Virtual Intersection Competitions titled ‘Chillax – It is Summer Vacation Time’ for the students of Classes VI-VIII. The activities aimed to promote the creative interests of the students and encourage a competitive sporting spirit among them.
Keeping in mind the unique interests of the students, different competitions spanning a variety of topics and themes were conducted on 20, 23 and 24 May 2022. This three-day fiesta of intersection virtual competitions was an immense success and provided an outlet for the students to showcase their creative sides while interacting with their peers. The details of the various competitions are as follows:
ENGLISH:
The Department of English organised varied activities to explore the creative bent in the students based on their writing, acting and presentation skills.
‘Shape Poetry Writing and Recitation Competition’ was organised for the students of Class VI which aimed to integrate poetry with art. The participants were given some words and they had to choose one word and write poetry in the shape of the chosen word and then recite it. The event was judged by Ms Livano Banerjee and Ms Ruma Madan and conducted by Ms Aakriti Sharma and Ms Kanika Chamoli. The results of the competition were as follows:
Class VII conducted ‘Curtain Call – Monologue Presentation Competition’ for the students. The participants showcased their skills such as voice modulation, fluency, and clarity of speech and expressions through the presentation of one-minute monologues from the perspective of various literary characters and by using creative props and ideas. The competition was organised by Ms Divya Thakur, Ms Madhurima Sarkar and Ms Diksha Jagga and judged by Ms Jaya Bharti and Ms Richa Basrao. The results of the competition were as follows:
‘Character Parade – Role Play’ was organised for the students of Class VIII where they enacted their favourite characters from popular novels in the presence of a large audience with much enthusiasm. The competition helped the students to overcome their stage fright and boosted their confidence. The event was judged by Ms Pratibha Sachar and Ms Richa Basrao and conducted by Ms Jaya Bharti, Ms Mansa Mary Thomas, Ms Deepika Malhotra and Ms Divya Kapoor. HINDI:
The Department of Hindi conducted ‘नन्हे कवि/कवयित्रियों के विचारों की उड़ान’ for the students of Class VI which lent them the space to explore their ideas and gave them a platform to express themselves through the medium of poetry. The enthusiastic efforts of the participants through the recitation of poems based on different birds was much appreciated by the judges and the teachers. The competition was judged by Ms Taru Assudaney and Mr Manish Jain. It was managed by Ms Priyanka Yadav and Ms Bharti Shukla. The results of the competition were:
‘चरित्र अभिनय प्रतियोगिता’ was a phenomenal blend of language with art where the students of Class VII received an opportunity to learn about the famous epic Mahabharata through their role play of the various characters. The event was arranged by Dr P Chinna and Ms Shipra Rai. The able judges, Ms Livano Banerjee and Ms Bhargavi, judged the participants on the basis of their language, content, expressions and fluency and announced following results:
The competition ‘विज्ञापन प्रस्तुति’ explored the observation skills in the students of Class VIII who used their quick wit and creativity to present novel and unique advertisements in front of the judges. The criteria of judgement of the competition was the understanding of the content, creativity, language and overall presentation and it was judged by Ms Preeti Pratihari and Ms Priyanka Yadav. The event was conducted by Ms Taru Assudaney and Ms Bhargavi Bisht. The results of the competition were as follows:
MATHEMATICS:
The Department of Mathematics paved the way to integrate art with mathematics. The promising amalgamation of the two was presented through the competition ‘Fraction Art’ wherein the students of Class VI got to have fun with fractions using paper cuttings to form different shapes. The competition was managed by Ms Aastha Bablani and Ms Gurpreet Manocha and was judged by Ms Neerja Jawa and Ms Bhumika Gupta. The results of the competition were:
The competition of ‘Quadrilateral Robots’ was organised for the students of Class VII which enabled them to express their creativity and originality as they turned various quadrilaterals into robots and gave them a variety of unique names. The activity was judged by Ms Nandini Dhir and Ms Jatinder Kaur and was conducted by Ms Bhumika Gupta and Ms Nalini Gautam. The results of the competition were as follows:
For the students of Class VIII, the interesting activity of ‘Mathematical Calendar’ was conducted that enabled them to apply the knowledge of various mathematical concepts and use them for calculating different numbers for the month of June. The competition was judged by Ms Pooja Khanduja and Ms Surbhi Gupta and was managed by Ms Shivani Gupta and Ms Nandini Dhir. The results of the competition were as follows:
SOCIAL SCIENCE:
The Departments of History, Geography and Political Science conducted an engrossing ‘Storytelling Competition’ for the students of Class VI wherein the participants narrated fascinating tales from the Panchtantra and the Jataka stories. After narrating the stories, the participants had to explain the moral/values behind the stories and relate them to concepts in Civics such as equality, freedom, fraternity, justice, etc.
Participants also had to highlight the geographical settings of the stories such as the flora and fauna, rivers, mountains, forests, etc. and their importance. Thus, the event aimed to connect the various disciplines as well as established the fact that moral values are timeless. The competition was judged by Ms Shruti Talwar, Ms Ritu Kumar, Ms Sapna Sharma and Ms Sudha Sharma and was organised by Ms Surabhi Gaur and Ms Nikita Khera. A ‘Collage/Poster Making Competition’ was organised for the students of Class VII. Through their beautiful collages and posters, the spirited participants spread awareness about the rich cultural heritage of India, the importance of maintaining a healthy body and the preservation of our environment. The event was judged by Ms Shruti Mishra and Ms Jatinder Kaur on the basis of the creativity and originality of ideas and slogans of the posters and was conducted by Ms Deepti Chaudhary and Ms Sakshi Pandey. The activity ‘JAM (Just a Minute Competition)’ was organised for the students of class VIII which gave them an opportunity to present their thoughts on the chosen topics in a cohesive and well-organised manner. The competition helped the students to boost their confidence and develop their public speaking skills. Ms Sakshi Pandey and Mr Arvind Singh managed the event and it was judged by Ms Shruti Mishra and Ms Preeti Pratihari. The results of the competition were as follows:

GENERAL SCIENCE:
The Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Biology focused on increasing the sensitivity and curiosity of the students of Class VI towards the environment by organising the activity ‘Plants Come to Life – Role-play Competition’. The participants explored the utility of different plants by role-playing as any plant of their choice and showcasing its edible parts, the nutrients it provides and the kinds of dishes made out of it in different parts of the country/world. The event was judged by Ms Livano Banerjee and conducted by Ms Neelam Ajwani and Ms Jisha Mathews. The results of the competition were:
The activity ‘Scientists come to Life’ was organised for the students of Class VII and brought to life many famous scientists as the participants used multifarious props and costumes to impersonate their favourite inspirational scientists. The competition was managed by Ms Saveri Lal and Ms Aastha Malik and was judged by Ms Deepika Singh and Ms Suruchi Bhardwaj. The results of the competition were as follows:
For the students of Class VIII, an array of interesting tasks were organised in the activity ‘ScienceXart – Science in Everyday Life’. The students presented their ideas through Mind Maps in Biology, Quizzes in Chemistry and Flip-Learning in Physics. Ms Shruti Gupta, Ms Bharti, Ms Dimple Menon and Ms Kriti managed the entire activity and it was judged by Ms Taruna Kapoor. The results of the competition were as follows:
SANSKRIT:
The students of Class VI participated in the activity of ‘श्लोक – गायनम्’’ which was conducted by the Department of Sanskrit. The participants learnt and recited the shlokas from the eighth adhyaya – ‘सूक्तिस्तबकः’ of Ruchira Part -1 beautifully along with their meanings and with the help of musical instruments. They zealously participated in this event and enjoyed singing the verses. It was judged and conducted by Ms Rupali Mahindru and Ms Priyamvada. The results of the competition were:
The students of Classes VII and VIII participated in the competition ‘श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता श्लोकोच्चारणम्’. The students of Class VII chanted the shlokas from the second adhyaya – ‘Sankhya Yoga’ of the Bhagavad Gita whereas the students of Class VIII chanted verses from the third adhyaya – ‘Karma Yoga’ of the Bhagavad Gita along with their meanings. The events were a great success and were managed and judged by Ms Rupali Mahindru and Ms Priyamvada. The results of the competition were as follows:
GERMAN:
A ‘Poetry Recitation Competition’ was organised for the students of Class VI to enable them to move beyond classroom learning and encourage creative skills and fluency in the German language. The participants presented their creations with confidence which excellently displayed their command over the language. The German enthusiasts of Classes VII and VIII were given the opportunity to introduce themselves in the language for the competition ‘Self Introduction’. Students participated enthusiastically and highlighted their unique personalities by speaking in German about their family, hobbies, home, etc. in front of the judges. FRENCH:
The students of Class VI took keen interest in the ‘French Poetry Recitation Competition’ where they recited short poems in French on a variety of topics. This activity accelerated the process of learning of the participants and reflected their confidence in learning the foreign language. For the students of Class VII, the competition called ‘Décrivez la France! – Describe France’ was conducted. Participants had to present a short speech describing France, its monuments, currency, museum, Paris, Napoleon Bonaparte, etc. The activity was quite interesting and enabled the facilitation of knowledge of such historical facts. Another fun activity ‘Ad-Zap’ was organised for the students of Class VIII wherein the participants made advertisements on ‘Summer Refreshments’ in French language. The students presented creative advertisements on various summer refreshments such as soft drinks, juices or anything which they would prefer in the summer season. SPANISH:
The Department of Spanish organised a ‘Spanish Poetry Recitation Competition’ for the students of Class VI. The participants showcased their creative skills while presenting their self-made poems. Their talent shone bright in front of the coordinator, Ms Ridhi Sethi, and the judge, Ms Jaishree Sharma. The results of the competition were:
The students of Class VII presented their ideas in the ‘Slogan Writing Competition on Protecting Trees’. Their slogans reflected their concerns towards the need of the hour, that is, the protection of the ecosystem. Ms Ridhi Sethi managed the event and it was judged by Ms Jaishree Sharma. The students of Class VIII participated in the competition ‘Ad-Zap’ which was organised to enable the students to write an advertisement on their own about summer refreshments and promote them by speaking in Spanish. The event was hosted by Ms Jaishree Sharma and Ms Ridhi Sethi and was judged by Ms Jaishree Sharma. The results of the competition were as follows:
ART:
To provide the students with an opportunity to express their thoughts on a variety of topics, a ‘Poster/Collage Making Competition’ was organised by the Art Department for the students of Classes VI-VIII. The artworks of the students were not only admirable but also inspirational and showcased their sense of love, respect and preservation for the nation and the environment. Ms Jatinder Kaur and Mr Shiven Singh Tanwar conducted the competition which was judged by Ms Madhurima Sarkar and Mr Amit Rajput. The results of the competition were as follows:
DANCE:
It is often said that ‘Dance is the hidden language of the soul’. To encourage expression through this marvellous art, the activity ‘Mudra – Classical Dance’ was organised for the students of Classes VI-VIII by the Department of Music and Dance. The students enthusiastically participated in the competition and presented their dancing skills, thereby receiving admiration and blessings from Ms Renu Bassi and Mr Ashok Singh Miral who conducted and judged the competitions. INDIAN INSTRUMENTAL:
As they say ‘Music is the universal language of mankind’, the Department of Music celebrated the free spirit of the students by organising ‘Saaz – The Indian Instrumental Competition’ for the students of Classes VI-VIII. A large number of participants competed with one another and displayed their proficiency in playing the different musical instruments. WESTERN INSTRUMENTAL:
‘Back to Skills – the Western Instrumental Competition’ was organised for the students of Classes VI-VIII to encourage them to let go of their inhibitions and display their prowess in playing a variety of western instruments. The competition encouraged the students to continue on their journey to learn their preferred instruments with greater zeal and determination. Mr Leimi Kashung conducted and judged the competition. INDIAN VOCAL:
Indian classical music is a cultural inheritance like no other, wrapped in mythology and loved by all around the globe. The ‘Solo Indian Vocal Competition’ was organised to give voice and means for self-expression to all the participants of Classes VI-VIII. Mr Mohd Hameed Khan and Mr Suman Kalyan Sangiri conducted the competition and it was judged by Mr Apoorva Agrawal and Ms Fatima. The results of the competitions were as follows:
WESTERN VOCAL:
The competition ‘Sing Your Heart Out’ was organised to celebrate the diversity and cultural beauty present in the school. All the participants of Classes VI-VIII performed exceptionally well under the able guidance of their teacher.
