Young Scientist Award for Shantanu Gangwar of Class XII

Shantanu Gangwar, a student of XII F was awarded the “Ninth CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award For School Children 2010” for his research work titled ‘An infrared based path guidance system (Smart Stick) for blind person’.
This is the highest award in the country for invention among school children.

Shantanu was felicitated by Shri Vilasrao Deshkmukh, Minister for Science and Technology, Govt. of India in Vigyan Bhawan on 26th September, 2011.

For the year 2010, only 2 inventions were selected out of 353 proposals received.
Shantanu’s invention relates “to a walking stick which can be innovatively converted into a smart stick as an infra red(IR) based path guidance system for early detection of objects by blind persons. The smart stick not only helps the blind person in walking but also helps him in early warning of an obstacle. The smart stick is light, cheap, safe and easy to use.” He was awarded a cash prize worth Rs 10,000, a trophy and a certificate.
