The World Mathematical Crusade was hosted by Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram on the 26 December 2013.Over 50 schools across the country participated in the event. The chief guest on the occasion was the Chairman of the CBSE, Mr. Vineet Joshi. The guest of honour was the founder of Ganit Guru and Managing Director of Elipsis Consulting Pvt. Ltd, Dr. Atul Nischal. Also present on the occasion were the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; the Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta; Headmistress, Mrs.Anita Singh; the Head of Department of Mathematics, Dr. Sushma Suneja; MatSoc Incharge, Mr.Anil Kathuria; and the faculty of the Mathematics department and members of Mathematical society.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp. All the guests were warmly welcomed with a heart-warming performance by the school orchestra followed by breath-taking classical and bharatnatyam dance performances. The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra gave a heart-rending dance performance which outlined several key issues like female foeticide, dowry and education of the girl child. The Western Vocal choir sang a melodious self composed A Cappella followed by an energetic dance performance on the track ‘Radioactive’. A fascinating presentation on the Fibonacci sequence was shown to the students.
The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, extended a warm welcome to all the guests and expressed the view that, ‘Mathematics transcends all boundaries of region, language and culture’. The chief guest, Mr. Vineet Joshi, spoke about the significance of the discipline in our daily lives. According to Dr. Nischal, mathematics is, ‘an integral part of our understanding of society as well as an important tool in learning critical thinking and problem solving’. The chief guest officially released the annual math magazine, ‘Mathyard’.
The various events started soon after the inaugural ceremony. The guest of honour was overwhelmed by the scintillating exhibition and presentations organised by students of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram It was greatly appreciated by the visiting faculty members of participating schools. The competitions on the occasion were, Math Quiz, Problem Bazaar, Intrigued, Pseudo Code and Surprise Event. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The overall winner of the event was Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. Being the host school, the trophy was passed on to Modern Delhi Public School, Faridabad. The second position was bagged by Delhi Public School, Noida. While the third position was won by Amity International School, Saket.
The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta delivered the vote of thanks. The Crusade served as an effective forum for Math enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.
