Workshops For Staff

Delhi Public School, R.K Puram organised various workshops for the teaching and non-teaching staff members on 28 February, 2018. These workshops were conducted by various field experts to educate and inform the staff members about various domains related to education. These workshops were educative, informative and enriching.

 

 WORKSHOP – TO REACT OR TO RESPOND?
“UNDERSTANDING EMOTIONS”
BY DR PRITI DHAWAN   (HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY, LSR)

The school was privileged to have Dr Priti Dhawan who enlightened the audience about the need to understand emotions with the intention of responding rather than reacting especially while dealing with students. Through a couple of activities, Dr Priti focused on the need for teachers to step out of their boundaries and comfort zones to create ‘original thinking zones’.

The resource person highlighted the fact that children tend to internalise what they observe. According to her, children idolize their teachers and teachers should be careful while responding and reacting when dealing with them.

The speaker further talked about the role of a teacher as a classroom practitioner. The facilitator should aim at minimal intervention with maximum satisfaction and communicate with a reassuring tone. Dr Priti discussed how a teacher must act as an emotional coach for students by listening to their problems and offering their support.

Through an interactive session Dr Priti shared the idea that teachers should be able to help students without controlling or judging and  be impartial, unbiased and objective.She highlighted the difference between listening and hearing and focused on the need to be emotionally involved while listening to students.

The speaker further elaborated on the characteristics of effective teachers which included being fair, friendly, understanding, organised, child-centered, generous in their appraisal and emotionally adjustable. Dr Priti concluded by saying that teachers should instil faith in students and make them realise their self-worth.

It was a fruitful session- interactive and highly engaging with an informative question-answer round.

 

WORKSHOP – CHILD RIGHTS AND TEACHERS

MR MANISH MANOCHA (ADVOCATE, SUPREME COURT OF INDIA)

 

The session started with a discourse related to corporal punishment where the speakers provided legal perspective by emphasizing on consequences and their effects and the importance of safeguarding childrens’ rights. The speakers discussed details related to various constitutional provisions along with relevant IPC sections. The resource people explained the various acts like Protection of Civil Rights Act, RTE Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.

Ms Reema and Mr Manish informed the teachers about the POCSO ACT (PREVENTION OF CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL OFFENCES) and elaborated on IPC sections which were followed before POCSO.They further defined POCSO and shared information regarding the punishments related to it.

Mr Manish Manocha discussed  the threats related to cybercrime and revealed astonishing facts aboutcriminal activities that take place through cyber bullying/stalking and cyber terrorism. He also explained various DO’s and DON’Ts related to cyber law.

The session was very informative and concluded with a question answer round. 

 

WORKSHOP ON MEDICAL PREPAREDNESS AND FIRST AID
BY- DR PUSHPINDER SINGH

Dr Pushpinder Singh apprised the staff members about medical preparedness and first aid .He  stated  that every person is a ‘first aider’. He spoke about the aims of first aid, cited ways to deliver prompt first aid and to evacuate to a necessary medical facility.He created awareness about medical conditions like allergy, asthma, choking, broken bones, cuts, falls, fainting attacks and nose bleeding. Dr Pushpinder educated the audience about ways to handle emergency cases along with corrective measures.

He emphasised on the need of composure while handing any patient. The session was structured to provide substantial understanding of First Aid.

 

WORKSHOP – DISASTER MANAGEMENT DURING CRISES IN SCHOOL
BY- COLONEL A.K GHOSH (RETD.)

The disaster management workshop was based on situations for evacuation in case of fire, natural calamities and bomb scares. Colonel Ghosh highlighted the objective of evacuation and suggested various ways to evacuate.

The speaker stressed on the need to be alert and calm .Col. A.K Ghosh mentioned how panic could be more destructive than actual crisis. He encouraged the teachers to acclimatise students to face crises, conduct crises management drills, mock drills and create disaster management teams to execute evacuation in the case of crises.

The speaker spoke about   fire detection, warning mechanisms and action during an earthquake. He described the process of fire fighting and conducted a mock session for it. He also cited the responsibilities of the disaster management team in case of crises. He spoke about the role and duties of Floor Wardens, Room Warders and the Assembly Marshal. Various fire extinguishers were shown and how to use them. The use of a fire hydrant was also shown.

Colonel A.K Ghosh concluded the session by sharing list of DO’s and DON’Ts. The session was educative and provided significant details.
