A delegation of 12 teachers from Indonesia and 20 students from Kashmir visited DPS R.K.Puram on the 12th of July. The guests, Mr. Kasid and Mrs. Renny, officials of the Ministry of Education, Indonesia were welcomed with bouquets. Also present were Ms. Yatie Azhari from the Department of Quality Assurance in Education, Indonesia and Mr. Yumitro Gonda, Staff of Education Attache, Indonesian Embassy, New Delhi.
Students from Government High School, Kirchi, Udampur and Government Higher Secondary School, Shudmahadev, Kashmir were also present.
The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini welcomed the guests and stressed on the need for greater national and international integration. A soulful performance by the orchestra of the school consisting of violinists, sitar players, tabla players and keyboardists enthralled the audience. This was followed by a rock music composition by the Western music choir. A graceful Kathak dance offered a glimpse into the vast culture of India. The cultural programme ended with a very energetic Bhangra performance by the junior students of the school.
Mrs. Renny, an official of the Ministry of Education, Indonesia, addressed the gathering and called DPS R.K.Puram ‘an inspiration’. She expressed a desire for more interaction between India and Indonesia. She was of the opinion that a teacher exchange between the two countries would enrich the education sector of both the nations. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta.
The presence of the Indonesian delegation and the students from Kashmir not only strengthened the school ethos, it also helped in promoting the integration of diverse cultures and nationalities.
The event was a memorable one for all present, and deepened the understanding of both cultures.
