It was a proud moment for DPS R.K.Puram when His Excellency Gustavo De Aristegui, the Spanish Ambassador graced the school with his presence on 16 April 2014. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini extended a warm welcome to him. His Excellency was welcomed with a melodious song followed by the lighting of the lamp. The ceremony commenced with a soothing symphony by the Indian Orchestra. Donya Alejandra Garcia Fuertes, Embassy Consul, also graced the gathering. A documentary highlighting the school’s achievements was shown. Mrs. Anita Singh, Headmistress, DPS R.K.Puram; Mrs Dolly Chanana, Headmistress DPS East of Kailash and Mrs. Archana Pental, Headmistress, DPS Vasant Vihar and were also present.
His Excellency Gustavo De Aristegui was born in Madrid in 1963. He holds a degree in law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas and a diploma in legal science from the same university. He has been in politics for 12 years. Addressing the students, Señor Aristegui highlighted the importance of values, culture and discipline. He mentioned that ethics and discipline are the tools that make a man. He also stressed on the fact that one must go beyond their limits to achieve more than what one can. Donya Alejandra Garcia Fuertes also pointed out the pleasure of learning Spanish and her most memorable moments with young children.
Dr. Saini addressed the gathering and stated that it was a historic occasion for DPS R.K.Puram and he would remember the day for the commencement of Spanish in the school. The school already offers German, French and Japanese to its students.86 students from DPS East of Kailash and 26 students from DPS Vasant Vihar have already opted for Spanish. The western choir captivated the audience by singing the Spanish version of ‘We are the World’. This was followed by a graceful classical dance. The ceremony ended with Dr. Saini delivering the vote of thanks and the Spanish and Indian national anthems.
