The Annual All India Inter DPS Commerce festival, Vanijya 2015 was held at DPS R.K.Puram on 29th October 2015. Under the aegis of the DPS Society, it included inter-school competitions in which 55 schools across India participated. Vanijya 2015 provides a common platform for commerce enthusiasts to learn more about this exciting field by way of distinctive events.
The inaugural function commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Renu Mital, Director, DPS Society. The Chief Guest for the valedictory ceremony was Mr. V. K. Shunglu, Chairman of DPS Society. The judges for the competitions were Mrs. Bhuvana Ravi, Dr. Mallika Kumar, Dr.Pankaj Mittal, Dr. L.S.Chaudhary, Mr. Uday Sonthalia, Mrs. Vasundhara Srivastava . Also present were the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini; Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, and Dr. Renu Nayar who is also Head of Department of Economics; Headmistress, Mrs. Anita Singh; Heads of Departments of Accountancy and Business Studies; Mrs. Reena Mehta and Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra, along with their team of teachers.
The cultural programme consisted of a recitation of Sanskrit Shlokas followed by a short film showcasing the events and achievements of the Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics Societies of DPS R. K. Puram. The President of the Business Studies Society gave an insight into the event which was followed by a scintillating Bharatnatyam dance performance. The Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Renu Mittal expressed her gratitude towards the school for hosting the event.
There were three online events, and seven onsite events. The online events comprised “Real to Reel”, in which teams were required to visit an industry or a business organisation and prepare a video clip based on their observations; “Bollywood to Business”, in which students were required to choose a clip from any movie depicting concepts of commerce; “Bulletin Bytes”, which was an e-newsletter designing competition. The onsite events included “Societal Expressions”, which consisted of preliminary film making, where students were given a social idea to enact; “Stock Analyst”, where teams were required to create their own portfolios, “Connecting the Dots”, wherein teams were supposed to narrate and continue stories with the help of clues, “The Legislative”, in which students were required to draft a bill to bring changes in an existing law; “Ecobizz”, a quiz relating to business, finance, management, and economic issues; “Creative Curve”, which was a poster making competition; and a surprise event, “Realm of Revelation”, wherein teams were supposed to guess the name of companies and brands on the basis of hints provided.
The valedictory ceremony had a cultural programme which consisted of a classical composition by the school orchestra. Dr. Saini addressed the audience and expressed the importance of “Service before Self”. This was followed by a mesmerizing yoga dance performance by members of the Dance Club. The events of the day were highlighted through brief speeches and a video. A detailed description about the formation and activities of the Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics Societies was also given. DPS Vasant Kunj enlightened the audience with a thrilling street play. The Chief Guest, Mr. V. K. Shunglu, emphasised the importance of societies and clubs in school, which helps students who later wish to pursue specific fields of study.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Mr. V. K. Shunglu, Dr. Saini, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Dr. Renu Nayar, Mrs. Anita Singh, and Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra. The winners of all the events were awarded certificates and trophies.
“Real to Reel” was won by DPS Greater Noida, while DPS Kalinga came second and DPS Jaipur came third. DPS Vasant Kunj won the first prize in the “Bollywood to Business”, followed by DPS Varanasi and DPS Indirapuram in the second and third places respectively. “Bulletin Bytes” was won by DPS Maruti Kunj, the second position was bagged by DPS Bahadurgarh while the third prize went to DPS Kalyanpur. DPS Vasant Kunj secured the first position in “Societal Expressions”, DPS Jaipur came second while DPS Rohini won third position. “Stock Analyst” was won by DPS Chandigarh followed by DPS Jaipur and DPS Azadnagar in second and third position respectively. DPS Panipat Refinery won “Connecting the Dots” while DPS Azadnagar came second and DPS Bhopal came third. “The Legislative” was won by DPS Navi Mumbai followed by DPS Rohini in the second place and DPS Greater Noida in the third place. DPS Vasant Kunj won the first prize in “Ecobizz” and DPS Chandigarh and DPS Rohini won the second and third prize respectively. “Creative Curve” was won by DPS Bahadurgarh followed by DPS Faridabad in the second position and DPS Dwarka in the third position. DPS Dwarka won the Surprise Event, “Realms of Revelation”, with DPS Noida coming in second, and with DPS Bahadurgarh coming in third. The Trophy for Overall Best Performance was awarded to DPS Rohini.
