Theatron’12 , an Inter School Theatre competition was organized by the Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram on 12 October 2012. Various schools across the city took part in the event. The competition had two categories: the first, ‘Spotlight’, a stage play, the topic for which was, ‘Newton’s third law of motion: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction’ while the second was ‘Face to Face’, for which topics were given on the spot.
The event commenced with a Ganesh Vandana. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini, warmly welcomed the guests. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta was also present along with Mrs.Sarita Goswami, former Vice Principal of the school and Mr. B.R. Guruprasad. The programme was coordinated by Mrs Pushpa Agarwal, Vice-Principal ,DPS Shiksha Kendra and Mrs.Azra Saleem. The panel of judges included Mr. Sandeep Madan, well-known HNI investor, Ms. Gauri Sharma, Mr. Archit Krishna, who acted in the film, ‘Do Dooni Chaar’, Mr. Sparsh Rana and Mr. Ajitabh Singh.
The plays themselves were full of energy and the exhilaration of the actors affected the audience as well. Musical performances by the members of the Cultural Committee as well as the school band added to the splendor of the event.
In the closing ceremony, the judges shared their views about the performance of the students with the audience. The much anticipated prize distribution followed with DPS R.K.Puram sweeping the awards, winning first prize in both events as well as best actor in ‘Face to Face’, which was bagged by Vedant Sharma. However, being the hosts they did not accept the prizes and so the first prize was passed on to Modern School, Vasant Vihar and Springdales, Dhaula Kuan for ‘Face to Face’ and ‘Spotlight’ respectively. The Best Actor for ‘Face to Face’ was passed on to Samarth Surana of Modern School, Vasant Vihar who also won the Best Actor award in the ‘Spotlight’ event for his role as Mr. Prakash. The runners up for ‘Face to Face’ and ‘Spotlight’ were Springdales, Dhaula Kuan and Modern School, Vasant Vihar respectively. Modern School, Vasant Vihar received the Rolling trophy, passed on to them by DPS R. K. Puram.
The event was a treat for all theatre lovers.
