The Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organised ‘Theatron’, an Annual Inter school Theatre fest on 22 July 2017 sponsored by Jamboree. 28 schools from across the city took part in the event. The competition had 6 categories namely, Nukkad Naatak, Blast from the Past, Action! , (M)Ad- Hatter, Stage Play and Theatrical Extravaganza (Surprise Event).
The chief guests for the event were Mr.Pramod Grover, Treasurer, DPS Society and Vice Chairman, DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee and Mr. Murad Ali, Prince of Kotwara and renowned director and film actor. The judges for the very competitive events were alumni Mr. Avik Pandey, and Mr. Jayesh Jaidka, for Action! (Movie Making); Mr. Sparsh Rana, Ex-President of Expressions Theatre Club, actor, writer and director of Dramanagar and Mr. Ajitabh Singh, Actor and Former Joint Secretary, Expressions Theatre Club for the Surprise Event ; Mr. Siddharth Madan, Founder Expressions Theatre Club, writer and director and Mr. Shayan Guha, Actor , for stage play; Mr. Kaushik Sachdev, Founder, Expressions Theatre Club and a copywriter along with Mr. Manish Jha, associated with mass communication and popular theatre groups for street play; Mr. Suhas Ratan, head of a boutique marketing agency and Mr. Sahil Gupta, producer, director and a professional dancer for (M)Ad Hatter and Ms. Anubha Rana along with Ms. Anavisha Banerjee for Blast from the Past. A video presentation by the Expressions Theatre Club introduced the event and the organising team to the excited crowd.
The judges commended the performance of the students at the closing ceremony and gave them tips on how to improve their performance. The Chief Guests were felicitated by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and the Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. This was followed by performances by the Expressions Theatre Club. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal talked about the growth of theatre as an art form and how acting is needed in everyday life as well. The Chief Guest, Mr. Murad Ali recited poems, emphasising the true meaning of an actor and acting. Mr. Pramod Grover spoke about how India has its own individual identity in this field and how art and theatre helps to shape one’s personality. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony conducted by Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee, Teacher In-Charge, Expressions Theatre Club.
DPS Vasant Kunj won the first position in the Stage Play, followed by Tagore International, Vasant Vihar in the second position and Mt. Carmel School, Dwarka in the third. Ribanta Saha of DPS Noida won the best actor for the stage play and special mentions included Anurag of Mt. Carmel School and “Donald Trump” from DPS Vasant Kunj. The Nukkad Naatak, street play event was won by Air Force Bal Bharti, with Manav Bharti, Panchsheel as the first runner- up and The Sri Ram School, Moulsari as the second runner-up, while Akriti of Amity Mahur Vihar won Best Actor. In the Blast from the Past, the Shakespearean monologue event, Rai Saheli of Amity Noida stood first while Kamna Rai of Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan and Suhana Bedi of Birla Vidya Niketan stood second and third respectively. In Action!, the online movie-making competition, Amity Noida came first, followed by Amity Mayur Vihar and DPS Gurgaon respectively. In (M)Ad – Hatter, Birla Vidya Niketan emerged first, Mt. Carmel School, Dwarka came second and DPS International came third. In the Theatrical Extravaganza, the Surprise Event, Amity Noida came first, DPS Gurgaon came second, followed by Mt. Carmel School, Dwarka in the third position. Mt. Carmel School, Dwarka emerged as the overall winner of the event. The event ended with the Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan delivering the vote of thanks.
The event was a huge success and was widely acclaimed by the participants and the theatre enthusiasts, alike.
