DPS R.K .Puram is hosting the sixth Armaan Dogra Memorial football tournament. The inaugural ceremony for the same was organized on December 10, 2013. The chief guest for the occasion was MR. Mark Seagraves, technical director of Arsenal Schools, India. Other dignitaries present included Anadi Barua, coach of the Indian Women’s football team, Mr. Johannes from the US embassy and Mr.Tarun Roy.
Armaan’s family members also graced the occasion with their presence. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp , The Principal, Dr. DR Saini’s addressed the audience and spoke about the significance of virtues such as team work, honesty and dedication. He also drew a beautiful analogy between sports and life. The speech was succeeded by a melodious performance by the school choir.
Next in store for the audience was a foot tapping dance performance by students of class 9. After the performance, Dr. P.N. Dogra gave a heart rending speech in memory of his son Armaan, a sportsperson in the true sense of the word- ready to tackle any challenge and live life to the fullest, who was snatched away by the cruel hands of destiny.. Football was Armaan’s true passion and hence is the perfect medium to honour and cherish his vibrant life. Dr. Dogra also encouraged the participating teams to endeavor to succeed. He expressed hopes of them making it to the 2017 Under 17 World Cup.
Anadi Barua and Mr. Seagraves expressed similar hopes and stressed on the importance of passion and discipline in the pursuit of sport.
The team members of the school football team were introduced to the guests. The tournament was inaugurated with a release of balloons followed by the chief guest formally declaring the tournament open.
A friendly match was played between members of the school team to mark the inauguration ceremony.
