The Annual Mathematical Crusade 2015, was organized by ‘Matsoc’, The Mathematical Society of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram on 14th December 2015. 70 teams from various national and international schools participated in the competitive events including a team from DPS Sharjah.
The Guests and judges for the occasion were Mr. Sajith Pai, Associate Vice President of Bennett University; Mr. Sanjeev Narang who is in the adhesive business; Dr. Megha Agarwal, Head of Department of Mathematics at Ramanujan College; Dr. Jonaki Ghosh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College; and Mr. Poshak Agrawal, Co-Founder of Athena Education. Also present were our alumni Shikhar Shiromani, Rohit Jain and Anant Ashutosh as judges . The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta; Mr. Anil Kathuria, Head of the Mathematics Department along with his team of teachers from the Mathematics department were present on the occasion.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests followed by a harmonious performance by the school orchestra. The audience was enthralled by a Kathak and a Ballet performance. A mesmerising Sanskrit Shloka Recitation, explained various concepts of Mathematics. Mr Sajith Pai addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of mathematics and problem solving in everyday life. The new edition of the annual school maths magazine, ‘Mathyard’ was released. The Presidents of the ‘Matsoc’ welcomed all the participants and highlighted the achievements of the students in various inter school competitions.
The program consisted of six competitive onsite events including Problem Solving, a Quiz, a Crossword, a Powerpoint Presentation, a Model Making Competition and a Surprise Event along with two online events Cryptic Hunt and Bennett Crusade. Problem Solving gave the students an interactive platform to showcase their problem solving ability in Mathematics. The Quiz consisted of a preliminary and a final round and saw teams answering challenging application based questions. Crossword to test trivia and mathematical knowledge of the participants. Other highlights were the Model Making event, where students had to assemble a mathematical model on the spot and a ‘Powerpoint Presentation’, where the students made presentations on mathematics and its application in various fields. In the online Cryptic Hunt , the participants had to crack series of cryptic levels. At each level they would encounter number of clues.’Bennett Crusade’ required the students to submit an essay on the ‘Need for India to have Entrepreneurial Engineers.’
Problem Solving was won by DPS Faridabad, while DPS R.K. Puram and Modern School, Barakhamba Road came second and Sanskriti School came third. DPS Noida won the first prize in the Quiz, followed by DPS R K Puram and DPS Vasant Kunj in the second place and DPS Dwarka in the third places . Crossword was bagged by DPS Rohini, the second position by DPS Dwarka while the third prize went to Modern School, Barakhamba Road. The Air force School, Subroto Park secured the first position in the Powerpoint Presentation, DPS Dwarka came second while DPS Mathura Road won the third position. Model Making was bagged by DPS Dwarka followed by DPS Sushant Lok in the second and DPS R.K. Puram and Rukmini Devi School in the third position. DPS Dwarka came first in the surprise event while DPS Rohini came second and DPS Noida third. The Overall winner was DPS Dwarka followed by DPS R K Puram and DPS Rohini at the second position and DPS Noida at the third position.
This event served as an effective forum for all math enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.
