The 4th Armaan Dogra Memorial Football Tournament was flagged off at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on 18th November 2011. The tournament is held to commemorate the death of Armaan Dogra, a student of the school, who was snatched away by the cruel hands of fate. The chief guest for the opening ceremony was Mr. Satish Jacob, a journalist with the BBC and an author and the guests of honour were Mr. Bitan Singh, football coach, Indian Junior Team in the Asian Championship; Mr. Surinder Singh, National Football player and Mr. Tarun Roy, the former Indian Football team Captain. Mrs.Pushpa Aggarwal, Vice Principal, DPS Shiksha Kendra, the coordinator of the programme also graced the occasion.
The ceremony commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony. The Principal Dr. D.R. Saini, warmly welcomed everyone and remembered Armaan as an all-rounder. Armaan’s father, Dr P.N. Dogra expressed his gratitude towards the school for organizing the tournament every year and cherishing Armaan’s love for football. It was a heart warming moment when Nirav Taneja, Armaan’s friend, spoke about the memorable times they had spent together. The school band played a song in his memory which was followed by a beautiful dance performance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Singh, spoke about the need to improve the standard of football at the national level. The chief guest, Mr Jacob, appreciated the move of starting such a tournament in Armaan’s memory. He declared the Armaan Dogra Memorial Football tournament open. The inaugural match was played between sections I and G of class XI, section I winning the match. The ceremony concluded with the Vice-Principal, DPS R.K.Puram, Mrs. Shobha Mehta delivering the vote of thanks.
