The closing ceremony of the 8th Armaan Dogra Memorial Global Inter-school Football Tournament took place on the 18th of December 2015 at DPS R.K.Puram. It is an annual event held in the memory of Armaan Dogra, an exemplary student who passed away in an unfortunate accident. Armaan was a zealous football player and an ardent fan of the football club, Manchester United. Excelling not only in the field of academics, he was proficient in other co-curricular activities, like acting, dancing, and sports. He impressed one and all with his immense zest for life.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini felicitated the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma, Padma Bhushan awardee, Chairman, and Editor-in-Chief of the prominent Hindi news channel, India TV. Mr.Rajat Sharma is one of India’s most phenomenal orators and journalists, who garnered a lot of acclaim for his T.V.show, ‘Aap ki Adalat’. Also present on the occasion were Armaan’s parents, Dr. P.N.Dogra and his wife along with other family members; the Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan, Mrs. Renu Nayar; Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh, and Mr. N. Suresh, the Head of the Physical Education Department.
The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, Mr.Rajat Sharma and called him an inspiration for young people.
Dr. P.N. Dogra, father of Armaan Dogra and head of the Department of Urology at AIIMS, paid his respect to the chief guest and added, “Armaan lived a short but king-sized life, and he still remains alive in everyone’s hearts.” He believed that this initiative will keep Armaan’s memories alive forever. He acknowledged the school’s effort and support that made the event a huge success.
The cultural programme constituted of a soulful performance by the school choir and a Punjabi folk dance.
Addressing the students, the chief guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma, said that the tournament was an inspiration for all aspiring sportsmen. According to him, sports is a binding force which brings people together. He shared his childhood memories with the students, narrating a few anecdotes from his life. He had an interactive session with the audience, where curious students asked various questions about his achievements and about his path to success.
The tournament was an exciting 3 day event in which 8 prominent schools took part. In the much anticipated prize distribution ceremony for the Intra-School segment, the best player prize of class 6,7,8 was awarded to Anuj Gupta of 6A, C.R. Pant of 7B and Parth Kothari of 8A, respectively; The overall winners were 6A, 7J, and 8J, in their respective classes. In the Inter-school segment, the ‘best defender’ was Arnav Chawla and the ‘best goalkeeper’ ,Mahir Veer Hora of DPS R.K. Puram, while Himanshu Manocha of Modern School, Barakhamba Road was awarded ‘The best striker of the tournament’. ‘The best player of the tournament’ title was given to Mahir Veer Hora of DPS R.K.Puram. In the final match of the Global Inter school Football tournament, DPS R,K,Puram defeated Modern School, Barakhamba Road by 2-1, to win the overall trophy.The Runners Up trophy for the event was presented to Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Mrs.Shobha Mehta and the event concluded with the felicitation of Referees, and Coaches, followed by the National Anthem.
