Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted TedxYouth , an independently organised event on 16th October 2015.It was inspired by the widely popular TED talks, which are a global set of conferences devoted to spreading ideas. The event had an audience from more than 20 prominent schools like, DPS Dwarka, DPS Vasant Kunj and colleges namely, IIT Delhi, IIIT and Amity International. The guest speakers invited for the event included well known personalities of national and international standing. The event was coordinated by Student In-charges Tanmay Bansal and Ananya Mohindra.
The event commenced with the felicitation of the speakers by the Vice Principals, Ms. Shobha Mehta and Ms.Vanita Sehgal; the Headmistress Mrs.Anita Singh; the Superviser, Mr.Mukesh Kumar; and Ms. Sangeeta Rana, Event in-charge. The guests comprised Ms Geeta Dharmarajan, Padma Shri awardee and Executive Director/Founder of Katha; the co-founders of the `Climber’, Ms. Chandrashekhar; Mr. Ramesh and Mr. Zeeshan; Mr Siddhant Shah, an engineer from Bristol University, UK; the famous RJ `Khurafati nitin’; 21 year old world leader and the youngest climate leader in India , Mr Ankur Thakuria; Sanjay and Shravan Kumaran, co-founders of GoDimensions, youngest mobile application programmers in the world and Mr Diwank Singh Tomer, a Thiel Fellowship awardee.
An interesting video highlighting the importance of the talks in the contemporary world, and a sample TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson was shown to the audience. The main event comprised of 17 speakers, among which were persons from the media, founders of organisations and highly accomplished people, sharing their views on topics like ‘Is it a man’s world?’, ‘InNOWvation’ and ‘Radio is there to stay’. Issues pertaining to `Mental health` ,`Evolution` and `Individual good Vs Larger good` were some of the topics brought to the floor. The speakers supporting the event from DPS RK Puram included, Shubhankar Mukherjee, Shagun Sethi, Naima, Ritin and Swadha.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Meher Bhatia and Sana Gujral, the President of TEDxYouth@DPSRKPuram and by Ms. Sangeeta Rana, the event in-charge. The audience was urged to follow the ideals of TED with, `Ideas Worth Spreading’.
