Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted The Inter-school Indian Vocal Music competition- ‘Swar Tarang’13 on 8 August 2013. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini welcomed all the guests. The panel of judges comprised Dr. Ojesh Pratap Singh, a respected young classical vocalist who is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts in north campus, Delhi University; Ms. Jyotika Dayal, a recipient of a senior scholarship from the Government of India from 1995-98. She has performed both nationally and internationally and Ms. Sonia Roy, an ‘A- grade’ vocalist with The All India Radio who has received extensive ‘taleem’ from Smt. Shanti Sharma. Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal, Vice Principal of DPS Shiksha Kendra, coordinated the programme.
22 schools participated in the musical extravaganza which consisted of two competitions- solo and group song. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of judges. The solo category saw some soothing and euphonic performances in the genre of “pure classical morning raga.”The theme of the group category was “celebrating patriotism and expression of nationalism.” It showcased mellifluous and symphonic performances.
Dr. Ojesh Pratap Singh addressed the students on the beauty of classical music. Ms. Jyotika Dayal and Ms. Sonia Roy sang beautifully inspiring everyone.
In the final prize tally, the first prize in the solo category was given to DPS Dwarka, the first runners up was Mother’s International followed by Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar. In the group category, the first prize was bagged by DPS Rohini, the first runners-up being DPS Noida and second runners up DPS Palwal.
It was a treat for all lovers of music.
