Stress Management, Legal Awareness and Health Management  Workshop

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized a workshop for all the staff members on the 10 September, 2018. The workshop was divided into three interactive sessions conducted for the teachers in the Audio Visual Hall. The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness about issues relating to Physical Health, Stress management, Juvenile Justice, and the POCSO Act. These workshops were coordinated by Ms. Niva Chhonkar and Ms. Vandana Chandhoke.

 Session 1
Bone Health and Coping with Bone Injuries
Dr. Ankit Goyal, Sports Injury Centre, Safdarjung Hospital.

An interactive session on bone health in teachers and how to prevent bone injuries, commenced with the Vice Principal, Mrs.Anita Singh, felicitating the keynote speaker, Dr Ankit Goyal, an Associate Professor at  the Sports Injury Centre at Safdarjung Hospital. Dr. Ankit is also an alumnus of the school.

The resource person enlightened the teachers by creating awareness about the common and frequently occurring illnesses due to particular body postures leading to pain in the neck, shoulders, arms, joints, bones and muscles. The noblest profession accompanies the stress and health hazards which need attention and remedy. The musculoskeletal disorders were addressed and solutions were recommended for better body postures. He emphasized on the vital role that exercise plays in adults preventing bone loss and maintaining muscle strength. He demonstrated some exercises and yoga postures for teachers. He stressed on the importance of nutrition through the intake of calcium, vitamins, proteins, fruits and vegetables. He ended the session by providing some of the guiding principles in case of emergency of bone injury. The session created awareness and concern among teachers for better performance by maintaining health. Vice Principals, Dr Renu Nayar and Ms Padma Srinivasan, extended the vote of thanks.

Session 2
Role of Police in Anti-bullying, POCSO and  Juvenile Justice Act and Security in the School Campus
Mr. Anish Prasad, IPS

The workshop on POCSO was conducted by Mr. Anish Prasad, IPS, Deputy Director, Central Bureau of Investigation, New Delhi. He was welcomed by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar.

Mr. Prasad emphasized that child abuse is rampant in schools, homes, neighborhood and public places. Keeping this in mind, the POCSO Act, 2012 and The Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 were started which address all sexual offences below the age of 18. He discussed the important features of this Act like complete privacy and gender neutrality. He also stressed on the mandatory role of teachers in reporting any incident of child abuse. Teachers must recognize the symptoms of sexual abuse and know how to deal with it. It is the responsibility of the school and the management to be vigilant at all times. He suggested many preventive measures to avoid bullying in school. This was followed by a Question and Answers round. Teachers participated enthusiastically in this discussion. The session ended with a vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. She stressed on the need for organizing such informative sessions. She made a plea to the teachers to be more proactive and watchful.

Session 3
Anger and Stress Management, Rude behaviour and Malicious Gossiping
Ms. Suparna Goel and Team

This enlightening and enriching workshop for the teachers was on Anger and Stress Management. The purpose of organizing this workshop was to help develop peaceful, healthy and holistically educated teachers and students. This session was beautifully conducted by Ms. Suparna Goel and her team from Heartfulness Institute, a global non-profit organisation .

Ms. Suparna Goel, an alumnus of DPS R.K.Puram, commenced the session with a philosophical memoir. She emphasized the fact that each one of us is unique. Therefore we must appreciate this uniqueness and understand the person we are. She strongly condemned the illusions of social media. She elaborated on the idea of generating beautiful and positive thoughts. The latter part of the session was taken by Dr. Rahul Mehrotra, Associate Director & Head, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Max Super Speciality Hospital. He elucidated on the fusion of science and spirituality. He substantiated this idea with an array of facts. The session was brought to end by Dr. Sachdeva with a practical demonstration of how meditation can facilitate us to continually empty our hearts of complexities and help filling our hearts with purity, light and love. The Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, extended the vote of thanks.
