Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organized inter-school competitions of poems and songs written by eminent poet and lyricist, Shailendra on 29th January 2013, whose centenary is being celebrated all over India this year. 15 schools participated in the competition.
Prominent guests included Dr. Mahesh Vidyalankar, Professor, Delhi University; Mr.S.K.Verma from Akashvaani; Mr. S.K. Rohila, music director of deshbhakti songs; Mrs. Jyotika , a prominent kathak dancer and a classical vocalist; Mr. Manjeet Singh, classical singer and Miss Sarana Balasuramanium, Bharatnatyam dancer.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest followed by the competition in which participants performed solo songs, duets, power point presentations and group dances on Shailendra’s lyrics. His contributions to Hindi literature and the film Industry was lauded both by the guests and the participants. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, while speaking to the audience on his contributions, appreciated the efforts of Hindi Department in successfully organizing the event.
The overall first prize was awarded to DPS, R.K.Puram but being the host the award was presented to DPS Noida, the second prize was bagged by DPS Greater Noida and the third prize by DPS Gurgaon. The consolation prize was given to Ambience Public School, Safdarjung Enclave.
