Scholar Badge Ceremony – Class VII (Sections G-K)

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted the scholar badge ceremony of Class VII on the 6th of December, 2012. The chief guest was His Excellency, Mr. Francois Richier, Ambassador of France to India. The guest of honour was Mr. Max Claudot, Counselor for Culture and Cooperation (Embassy of France) and Director, Institute of France in India, and Ms. Chantal Proste, attaché for Cooperation in French language. The Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta, and the two headmistresses, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Anita Singh also graced the occasion. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini welcomed the guests with a token of appreciation.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp which was followed by a performance by the school orchestra. A short video clip on the achievements of the school was screened. Dr. Saini addressed the gathering and talked about the popularity of the French language in the school, and also about the strong relationship the school shares with France through its various Exchange programmes. He thanked the chief guest and parents for their presence at this momentous occasion. The school’s Western music choir rendered a melodious symphony of a French song. This was followed by a fusion dance of Bharat Natyam, Kathak, and Jazz which left the audience mesmerized.

There was a speech on “Body- the Temple of the Soul”, in which the students enacted the roles of various inspiring personalities like Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, among others. A yoga dance was performed, stressing the importance of yoga for the body and the soul. There was an energetic performance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra on the song “Waka Waka” by Shakira.

The Ambassador of France was welcomed on the stage with a huge round of applause. Addressing the students he said that the ceremony reminded him of his school in Paris, where he had got his first award. He also stressed on the importance of the cooperation between the schools of India and France, and the ideal of democracy, which is common to both these countries.

The much awaited prize distribution began. The prizes were distributed by the chief guest and the Principal. Mrs. Anita Singh, the Headmistress of Classes VI and VII, delivered the vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem.
