Sanskrit Diwas

The Sanskrit Club and Sanskrit Department of DPS R.K. Puram celebrated the Sanskrit Diwas on 30 August 2016 with great enthusiasm. Present on the occasion were the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Mrs. Anita Singh; and Mrs.Amla Thukral, the Head of Department of Sanskrit.

Dr. Satya Murti , a renowned scholar of Sanskrit and philosophy presently associated with JNU was the chief guest for the event. He is multi talented personality and is well versed in Indian vocal and instrumental music.The Principal welcomed the chief guest and addressed the gathering of students of classes VI to X .

The event began with a mesmerizing dance performance on “Guru Ashtakam” followed by a One Act Play – “the sun is on strike” which spread the message of saving our environment for a better future. A group song, a dance ‘Madhurashtakam’ depicting ‘Balkrishna’ and a ‘character role play’ of great freedom fighters were next. The great dignitaries enacted by the students included Bhagat Singh, Abdul Gaffar Khan, Lala Lajpat Rai, Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The bilingual rap in Sanskrit and Russian by the director of Sanskrit Club accompanied by beat boxing had everyone enthralled.

The chief guest praised the school for balancing the modern and traditional and shared his views on the role and importance of Sanskrit. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Anita Singh delivered the vote of thanks. The event was a treat for all Sanskrit enthusiasts.
