Delhi Public School, RK.Puram hosted “Sanskrit Bhashotsva- the Inter DPS Sanskrit Festival 2013”, under the aegis of the DPS Society on 22 August 2013. The festival based on the theme ‘Nature is very beautiful’, witnessed the participation of 34 DPS schools from all over the country. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini welcomed all the guests and participants.
A series of events took place on the school premises. The first event was the “Bhasha Krida”,a presentation on a social theme. The judges were Dr. Pravesh Saxena , a poetess and formerly a lecturer at Zakir Hussain College and Dr.Santosh Kumar Shukla, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit from JNU.
Several plays were performed by students on various social themes, like child labor, importance of women in society, saving the girl child, adoption of Western culture, etc. The Sanskrit quiz was judged by teachers of the host school. In the last event ‘Geet Abhineet’ a team of 2 students took part from each school in which one student sang the shlok and the other enacted it. It was judged by Dr Baldevanand Sagar, head of the Sanskrit wing at Akashwani and Dr. Ratnam G.Nair, the former head of Sanskrit department at Lady Sri Ram College.
The Chief Guest for the valedictory programme was Mr Ashok Chandra, Chairman of the DPS Society. The guest of honor was Mr.Haseeb Mohammed, First Secretary to the High Commission, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Other esteemed guests were Mrs Renu Mital, Director of DPS Society and Mrs Shovana Narayan, Member of DPS Society. The headmistresses, Mrs Anita Singh and Ms Vanita Sehgal were also present. The event was organized by Dr.Asha Lata Pandey, Head of the Sanskrit Department along with her team of teachers. A glimpse of the events of the morning was shown followed by the performances by some of the winners.
The guest of honor, Mr.Haseeb Mohammed and the chief guest, Mr. Ashok Chandra, addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of preserving our culture. Padamshri Shovana Narayan addressed the gathering and released a magazine, ‘Balgeet and Gyansancharini’ – a compilation of self composed Sanskrit poems by the students and teachers.
The first prize for “Bhasha Krida” was given to DPS Vasant Kunj followed by DPS Dwarka in the second and DPS Faridabad in the third position. DPS R.K.Puram bagged the first position for the Sanskrit quiz, the second was won by DPS Kanpur, Kalyanpur and the third by DPS Faridabad. The first prize for the Geet Abhineet was secured by DPS Faridabad and DPS Panipat Refinery followed by DPS Rohini and DPS Varanasi at the second position and DPS Vasant Kunj at the third. The winners of Bal Geet” were DPS R.K.Puram followed by DPS Panipat Refinery at the second and DPS Vasant Kunj at the third place.
The chief guest distributed the prizes followed by the ‘Shanti Paath” – an invocation to the forces of nature and the event concluded with the National Anthem.
