Psycho-Socio Fest Mosaic 2014

The annual Psycho-Socio festival, ‘Mosaic 2014- Patterns of life’ was held at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on 22 August 2014. It provided a platform to the students to blend academic excellence with their creativity. Around 41 distinguished schools from all over the NCR participated in the event. It commenced with a welcome speech and a mesmerizing dance performance. The Chief guests for the event were Mr. Ankit Tyagi, a renowned journalist from Headlines Today, and Dr. Sarika Sarangi, a pro-active psychologist who is also the founder-director of SEWAK (the Society for Empowerment, Well being, Achievement and Knowledge). The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini; Ms.Vithika Rahul, Head of the Psychology Department and Dr.Rita Khanna, Head of the Sociology Department welcomed the audience. The Principal spoke about the rising interest of students in pursuing the two subjects.

Mosaic was an amalgamation of three events namely: Mind Games – a psychology and sociology quiz, Canvas – the poster making competition, and Showcase – a psychological and sociological analysis of an advertisement. The Psychology Quiz covered a wide range of topics included both textual as well as audio-visual rounds. The Sociology Quiz was divided into 10 rounds of challenging, theoretical, pictorial and visual questions based on the Indian society. Ms. Bhavna Sabarwal judged ‘Canvas’ which gave an opportunity to all the budding artists to exhibit their talent through the beautiful strokes of their paint brushes. The topic for the poster making competition was ‘Understanding Adolescence’ or ‘The Changing Identity of the Indian Woman’.

The closing ceremony began with a melodious duet, a soothing violin piece, and another soul stirring song by the students of DPS R.K. Puram. Then the much awaited results were announced. DPS Dwarka bagged the first position while DPS Rohini came second in the Psychology Quiz. In the Sociology Quiz, Holy Child Auxilium stood first and Vasant Valley stood second. For ‘Canvas’ the first position went to St. Thomas School followed by Amity International School, Saket. Vasant Valley won the first prize while Ramjas School stood second in the ‘Showcase’. The rolling trophy was awarded to Vasant Valley School. The judges were extremely pleased to see how high the students had set the bar for themselves and gave their hearty congratulations to all for their enthusiastic participation.
