‘PANCHTATVA-THE ELEMENTS OF NATURE’ – AN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FESTIVAL

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized its annual environmental festival ‘Panchtatva- The five Elements of Nature’ on 20th November 2015. ‘Panchtatva’ was a mega event which saw the participation of 63 schools from India and countries like Australia, Qatar, Sharjah and USA. The theme of the event was ‘Conserve biodiversity for sustainable development’. A collaborative effort of the Environment and Geography Clubs of the school, the festival comprised of 10 competitions in two main online and onsite activities.

‘Panchtatva Saviours’ is a team of dedicated members from the Environment and the Geography Club of DPS R. K. Puram striving to ensure a clean and green tomorrow. The team aims to inculcate ‘Responsible Green Values’ amongst the students through Intra- and Inter-school activities.

Shri Shashi Kant Sharma, Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) of India, was the chief guest for the event. Rear Admiral M.M Chopra and . Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini presided over the function.. Dr. B.C. Sabat, School Environment Club in-charge, Government of NCT Delhi, Ms Padma Srinivasan, Vice-Principal , Ms. Anita Singh, Headmistress (VI-VII) and Mr S.K.Arora, HOD, Biology also graced the occasion. Mr.Mukesh Kumar, HOD- Computer Science Department, Ms. Rupa Das, HOD-Geography and Ms. Niva Chhonkar, HOD-Biotechnology were the event Co-ordinators.

Competitions like ‘Dance of the Elements of Nature’ and ‘Street Play on the Green Road’, were conducted during the festival along with the other online events like Green Rhymes , Green-o-tisement, eZoom in eZoom out.

‘Dance on the elements of nature’on the theme of ‘From blue to green save the scene’ was judged by Dr. Carreen.Pakrasi, an Environment enthusiast and Senior Consultant at Medanta Hospital and Mr. Hemant Kumar, famous choreographer . The judges for the street play competition on the topic ‘Crush the greed and go green’ were Mr. Amitabh Pandey, and Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, theatre activist and educator from Shree Ram School of Performing Arts.

The valedictory ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the guests by the Principal. A mesmerising Ganesh Vandana and a welcome song were performed and students shared their views on environment. A scintillating folk dance titled ‘From Kashmir to Kanyakumari’ won the hearts of the audience.

Rear-Admiral M.M. Chopra shed light upon how throughout history, culture and religion, humans have always worshipped the sun, the creator of the five elements, and the significance of the Gayatri Mantra in this regard.

The esteemed chief guest, Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma appreciated the students’ and teachers’ efforts in spreading awareness and knowledge about conserving the elements and, and talked about the four R’s- Reuse, reduce, recycle and return.

Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini stressed on the importance of conserving the five elements- earth, air, water, fire and sky.

The winners of the dance competition were Sri Venkateshwara International School, Dwarka. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was placed second and Delhi Public School Indirapuram came third.

St. Thomas School bagged first position in the Street play competition with Delhi Public School, Mathura Road in second place. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram bagged the third position. Father Agnel School and Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj were awarded consolation prizes.

The overall winners were DPS R.K.Puram but being the host school the trophy was passed on to Modern Vidya Niketan, Aravalli Hills.

The magazines of the Geography club- Geomania and the Environment Club- Terravision were launched. The day concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh.
