An Interschool folk dance competition titled, “Nritya-Utsav” was organized by Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram, on 30 April 2014. The Chief Guest was an illustrious dancer and founder of the Indian Revival Group, Mr. Yog Sunder Desai. The judges were renowned dancers, Mr. Parveen Gangani and Ms. Papiha Desai. The lamp lighting ceremony took place upon the arrival of the guests and they were presented with mementos. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini; Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta; Vice Principal, DPS Shiksha Kendra and the coordinator of the event, Ms. Pushpa Agarwal were also present on the occasion.
The guests were welcomed with a scintillating performance by the Indian choir followed by a traditional kathak dance. A fascinating presentation on the achievements of dance was also shown. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini inspired the students by saying, “Music and dance are indispensable for the soul.” The various dance performances were breathtaking from tribal dance to the Dandia. Fourteen schools took part in the competition. Addressing the students, Ms. Papiha Desai expressed her view that all forms of dances, classical and folk, are very important for one’s well-being.
In the much awaited prize distribution, Amity International, Saket got the critics award, Bal Bharti School , Pitampura received the best costume award and DPS Vasant Kunj the award for the best choreography. The main awards were announced by Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta with Red Rose Public School, Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan and Rukmani Devi Public School bagging the first, second and third place respectively. The event was a treat for all lovers of dance.
