Nritya Utsav -an Inter School Folk Dance Competition

Nritya Utsav- an inter school folk dance competition was organized by DPS R.K. Puram on 19th October 2012. The event started with a dance dedicated to goddess Durga performed by the students of the host school followed by a folk song. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini, extended a warm welcome to all the guests. Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal, Vice Principal, DPS Shiksha Kendra and Mrs.M.Sudeshna, the coordinators of the programme were also present.

The judges for the competition were Mr. Shashidharan Nair and Mrs. Papiha Desai. Mr. Shashidharan Nair is an exceptionally gifted dancer and choreographer who has devoted nearly 5 decades to his love and pursuit of dance. He is currently guru and choreographer at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra. Mrs. Papiha Desai is a versatile dancer and choreographer who has a multitude of compositions to her credit which have been showcased in India on national television and international forums. She currently heads the Indian Revival Group, a premier dance ensemble of the country with a career spanning 6 decades.

14 schools participated in the competition. A team of upto fifteen members was allowed from each school. Judging was done on the basis of authenticity, innovation, research and costume. Dances from all over the country like Ghoomar, Dollu Kunitha, Bihu were performed with great enthusiasm.

Mrs. Papiha Desai appreciated the innovation and creativity displayed by the host school in arranging the event. Addressing the participants, Mr. Shashidharan Nair emphasized that participation is far more important than winning.

In the final tally, the first position was bagged by DPS, R.K.Puram but being the host school it was passed on to Tagore International School. The first runners up were Apeejay School, Noida and DPS Noida bagged the third position.

The programme was a delight for all lovers of dance and music and provided a wonderful platform to students to display their talent.
