Kanwar Ashish Under 7 Cricket Tournament 2016

The Kanwar Ashish Under 7 Cricket Tournament was held from 19 – 23 September 2016 in the school. Six DPS schools from Delhi took part in it. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal was present with the Head of Physical Education Department, Mr.N.Suresh, along with his team of teachers.

The final match on 23rd September was between 3 consecutive years winner, DPS Vasant Vihar vs DPS Mathura Road who reached the U -7 yrs Cricket final for the first time. The toss was won by DPS Vasant Vihar and they elected to field. DPS Mathura Road scored 48 runs for 6 wickets in 10 overs match. Kushagra scored 19 not out & Aditya Garg of Vasant Vihar claimed 2 wickets for 9 runs. Chasing the small target of 49, DPS Vasant Vihar won the Tournament by losing 5 wickets only. Aditya Garg scored 28 not out, Sakib of Mathura Road, bowled well and claimed 3 wickets.

32nd Delhi State Level Shooting Championship

Kriti Gupta of X-H participated in the 32st Delhi State Level Shooting Championship (Clay Pigeon Trap (Jr) Women Shotgun) held at Tughlaqabad Shooting Range (ISSF) from 14-23 August 2016.

Kriti won 2 Gold Medals in the Juniorr & Senior category. She was Ranked No.1, in the Junior & Senior at the Delhi State Level.

All India Inter-DPS Boys Chess Championship 2016

The All India Inter DPS Chess Boys Open Tournament was held at DPS Aligarh from 4-6th August 2016 , DPS R.K. Puram emerged as the overall second runners up in the championship.


Visit of Mr. Stephen Fleming

DPS R.K Puram had the proud privilege of a visit from Mr.Stephen Paul Fleming on 7 September 2016. Mr. Fleming is a former New Zealand cricketer, and captain in test and one-day cricket of the national cricket team. In July, 2014 Mr. Fleming, together with the New Zealand High Commissioner to India, Mr.Grahame Morton announced the New Zealand India Sports Scholarships to support Indian students interested in studying sports related programmes in New Zealand.

Upon his arrival the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guest. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of Mr. Fleming. The cultural programme began with a mesmerising classical dance performance by the dance team of the school depicting the nine emotions or ‘Navras’. Mr.Fleming conducted a short quiz about some interesting facts of New Zealand. The students surprised him with their knowledge of the country for which they were rewarded with gifts and autographed mugs.

Mr. Fleming addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of education. He emphasised on the need for proper planning and how New Zealand had a great future for higher studies. He shed light upon the various universities and different courses offered by the country. Of these universities, eight are ranked in the top 50 of the world. He told the audience how he began his journey with the goal of becoming a teacher. However, his path led him to become a professional cricketer for the New Zealand national team. He always put education and cricket on the same pedestal and is happy now as an ambassador of education for his country.

The students were given a taste of New Zealand when Mr. Fleming presented them with a kiwi fruit, which is the national fruit of New Zealand. Mr. Fleming also engaged in a personal interview with some of the students about his life and career.

The Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar delivered the vote of thanks. The event was a tremendous success and a “fruitful” experience for all the students.

Double Crown in Delhi State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament

Aanchal Malhotra of class XII S secured the 1st position in the Women’s Singles, the 1st position in Youth Girls(Under 21) and the 2nd position in the Junior Girls (Under 18) in the PING PONG DELHI STATE TABLE TENNIS RANKING TOURNAMENT at Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi from 16th August to 19th August 2016.

The All India IPSC Tennis Boys Championship 2016

The All India IPSC Tennis Boys Championship was held at Assam Valley School ,Tejpur Assam from 25-30 August 2016. DPS R.K. Puram won the U-17 Team Championship and was the Runners up in the U-14 Team Championship. Rohan Mehra won the U-17 Individual Championship and Tarush Bagai was declared the second Runners up in the U-17 Individuals category.

Winner of 6th Albatross Inter-School Junior Golf Championship India -2016

Yuvraaj Bir Singh Sodhi has emerged as the winner in the 6th Albatross Inter-School Junior Golf Championship India -2016 held at the Classic Golf and Country,Gurgaon in the Age Category B (13-14yrs).
