Delhi Police Sessions for Teachers, Students & Transport Staff

On 23rd September 2016, the new SHO of R.K.Puram Police Station, Mr. Som Nath Paruthi visited the school and conducted a session for senior teachers of the school. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal and Mr.Mukesh Kumar welcomed him to the school. Mr. Som Nath discussed about various amendments in the laws related to students, women and others. He suggested various precautions and steps to be taken for the greater safety of the students in the school premises and in the school buses. He was apprised of the various safety measures, which are already in place. SHO answered many queries raised by the teachers; he also added various legal aspects of handling issues keeping the present scenario in mind. He also informed the teachers that the systems have changed over the years and now lodging complaints/FIR has been simplified for everyone using online services of Delhi Police website.

It was an informative and fruitful session for everyone.

Kanwar Ashish Under 7 Cricket Tournament 2016

The Kanwar Ashish Under 7 Cricket Tournament was held from 19 – 23 September 2016 in the school. Six DPS schools from Delhi took part in it. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal was present with the Head of Physical Education Department, Mr.N.Suresh, along with his team of teachers.

The final match on 23rd September was between 3 consecutive years winner, DPS Vasant Vihar vs DPS Mathura Road who reached the U -7 yrs Cricket final for the first time. The toss was won by DPS Vasant Vihar and they elected to field. DPS Mathura Road scored 48 runs for 6 wickets in 10 overs match. Kushagra scored 19 not out & Aditya Garg of Vasant Vihar claimed 2 wickets for 9 runs. Chasing the small target of 49, DPS Vasant Vihar won the Tournament by losing 5 wickets only. Aditya Garg scored 28 not out, Sakib of Mathura Road, bowled well and claimed 3 wickets.

Visit of Mr. Stephen Fleming

DPS R.K Puram had the proud privilege of a visit from Mr.Stephen Paul Fleming on 7 September 2016. Mr. Fleming is a former New Zealand cricketer, and captain in test and one-day cricket of the national cricket team. In July, 2014 Mr. Fleming, together with the New Zealand High Commissioner to India, Mr.Grahame Morton announced the New Zealand India Sports Scholarships to support Indian students interested in studying sports related programmes in New Zealand.

Upon his arrival the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guest. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of Mr. Fleming. The cultural programme began with a mesmerising classical dance performance by the dance team of the school depicting the nine emotions or ‘Navras’. Mr.Fleming conducted a short quiz about some interesting facts of New Zealand. The students surprised him with their knowledge of the country for which they were rewarded with gifts and autographed mugs.

Mr. Fleming addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of education. He emphasised on the need for proper planning and how New Zealand had a great future for higher studies. He shed light upon the various universities and different courses offered by the country. Of these universities, eight are ranked in the top 50 of the world. He told the audience how he began his journey with the goal of becoming a teacher. However, his path led him to become a professional cricketer for the New Zealand national team. He always put education and cricket on the same pedestal and is happy now as an ambassador of education for his country.

The students were given a taste of New Zealand when Mr. Fleming presented them with a kiwi fruit, which is the national fruit of New Zealand. Mr. Fleming also engaged in a personal interview with some of the students about his life and career.

The Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar delivered the vote of thanks. The event was a tremendous success and a “fruitful” experience for all the students.



Teachers’ Day 2016

Teachers’ Day 2016 was celebrated at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on 5th September. Teachers were greeted with roses at the school gates early in the morning. Students put together cards for their teachers as a surprise. Everybody assembled in the Assembly Ground.

The Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal thanked the students and talked about how rewarding teaching was as a profession. She also congratulated the Vice Principal, Mrs Anita Singh on receiving a State Award from the Directorate of Education. This was followed by the felicitation of teachers who received the ‘Role Model Teacher Award’ from DPS Society: Ms Abha Chona, Ms Niva Chhonkar, Ms Jonaki Sarma, Mr Subodh Kumar, Ms Lalitha Srinivasan, Ms Rupa Das, Ms Ritu Nayyar and Ms Amla Thukral.

The Western Music Society presented a song, towards the end of which all students gave a standing ovation to the teachers. A series of dance performances took place, exhibiting the versatile culture of our nation, which included Rajasthani, Kathak and Bhangra dances. The Expressions Theatre Club presented an enthralling skit highlighting the importance of hygiene. The whole school took a pledge to carry forward Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a ‘Clean India’. The program ended with an enlivening performance by the Dance Society of the school, who later invited the appointees to join in. While the teachers enjoyed a movie, the appointments took over the discipline of the school.

All in all, the event was a huge success.
