15th Annual Dhruv Rajgarhia Memorial Debate

DPS R.K. Puram organised the 15th Annual Dhruv Rajgarhia Memorial Debate on 19 August 2016. This debate is held every year in the memory of Dhruv Rajgarhia, a student of the school who passed away in 2002. Dhruv is fondly remembered as a keen sportsman, an enthusiastic debater, a peacemaker, and one with an unparalleled zest for living. The debate was instituted by his grandfather, Late Shri K. L. Rajgarhia in 2002 in his memory .The aim was to promote debating skills amongst students and to hone and fine tune their oratorial skills. This year, 21 schools from all over Delhi and NCR participated in this prestigious debate.

Professor Anand Ranganathan, Associate Professor in the Special centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University; Mr. Ullekh NP , journalist and political commentator for OPEN magazine and Mr. Melbin Joe Mathew, renowned Radio Jockey, judged the competition. The Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Mr and Mrs Rajgarhia, parents of Dhruv Rajgarhia were present on the occasion.

The event began with a welcome address by the Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan who encouraged the students to make the best use of this platform. The topics were given on the spot. All the contestants presented immaculate arguments on topics like ‘Industrialisation does not benefit the rural poor’ and ‘Collectivism should be preferred over individualism’ and quoted celebrated intellectuals like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg.

The judges appreciated the participants and stressed on the increasing importance of debating in schools. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; the esteemed judges and Mr. and Mrs. Rajgarhia were present for the prize distribution ceremony. In the individual category, the first position was bagged by Adit Bhardwaj of DPS R.K. Puram, second by Ishaan Chaudhary of Springdales, Pusa Road and third by Gautam Goyal of DPS International. The Best Interjector was awarded to Kaushik Garg of Springdales School, Pusa Road and the school won the Best Team prize also.

The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks given by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal.

Vasant Valley School, Vasant Vihar organised the All India Inter-School Aaj Tak Hindi Debate on 4th and 5th August 2016 in which around 80 students from 27 schools participated.The schools were divided into 7 groups for round one. Schools in each group competed against each other and had an Oxford style-debate where each team was given 30 minutes for preparation and 3 minutes per speaker. Only seven teams qualified for the second round. DPS R.K. Puram qualified for the second round and Uday Bansal of DPS R.K. Puram won the Best Speaker Award in his group.

In Round 2, the Turncoat Debate, two speakers each from 7 schools took part. DPS R.K. Puram and Gyan Bharati School qualified for the third and the final round. Uday Bansal of DPS R.K. Puram won the Best Speaker Award in this round as well.

In the final round, a Parliamentary Debate, the two teams which qualified were Gyan Bharati School and DPS R.K. Puram. Aaj Tak’s Deputy Editor, Ms.Anjana Om Kashyap was the chief guest. Gyan Bharati School won the debate and Uday Bansal of DPS R.K. Puram won the Best Speaker award in the final round as well.
Uday Bansal (XI-O), Anveshika Sahi(XI-W) and Niket Krishna Khadgawat(XI-E) participated in the debate from DPS RK Puram and got second position for the school.


Theatron 2016

‘Theatron’, sponsored by Jamboree, was organized by the Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram on 13 August 2016. 10 schools from across the city took part in the event. The competition had three categories: A Stage Play on the theme – ‘Monsters don’t sleep under our beds, they live inside our heads’; Street play, Face off and a surprise event.

The teacher in-charge, Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee extended a warm welcome to the participants and spoke about theatre as a gateway of opportunity. The chief guests for the event were Mr.Munish Bhardwaj, actor, writer and director and Ms.Bubbles Sabharwal, renowned theatre artist and actor. The judges for the various competitive events were Mr. Sahil Gupta, producer, director and professional dancer; Mr. Siddharth Madan, alumnus and entrepreneur; Mr.Anirban Bhattacharya, a theatre enthusiast from Sri Venkateswara College; Ms. Shrutika Sathenapally, jury award winner for excellence in dramatics; Mr. Sparsh Rana and Mr. Ajitab Singh, alumni and ex-members of the club. A video presentation by the Expressions Theatre Club introduced the event and the organising team to the audience.

In the closing ceremony, the judges commended the performance of the students and stressed on the growing importance of theatre in schools. The Chief Guests were felicitated by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar. A street and a stage play were presented by the members of the Expressions Theatre Club. The Chief Guests spoke about the dire need for popularising the culture of theatre in the country followed by a behind-the-scenes video presented to huge rounds of applause.

DPS Noida won the first position in the Stage Play, followed by DPS Vasant Kunj in the second position and DPS Gurgaon in the third. In the Street Play category, DPS Vasant Kunj stood first while Amity Noida and Modern School, Barakhamba Road stood second and third respectively. The Face-Off was won by DPS Gurgaon, while DPS Noida stood second and DPS Mathura Road third. The Best Actor awards in the Stage and Street categories were won by DPS Noida. DPS Noida also claimed the overall trophy for the event.

The event was highly appreciated by the participants and theatre enthusiasts, alike.

An Inter School Debate Competition, ‘Prudentia’, was organised by G. D. Goenka Public School, Sector 22, Rohini, on 5th August 2016. The topic was ‘Social Media- Is it a hindrance to the freedom of the Fourth Estate (Press)?’ Angelina Dash of XI-W won the Best Speaker Award (Against) in the Senior Category( IX- XII) out of 25 participating schools.


Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted TEDx Youth, an independently organised annual event, sponsored by Jamboree on 6th August 2016. It was inspired by the widely popular TED talks, which are a global set of conferences devoted to spreading ideas in the form of short, powerful talks. Many prominent schools like Sanskriti School, DPS Vasant Kunj, The Mother’s International School and colleges namely, IIT Delhi, Hindu College, Kirorimal College, Amity University etc were a part of the audience. The guest speakers invited for the event were of national and international acclaim. Also present on the occasion was Ms. Sangeeta Rana, the Incharge of Tedx Youth in the school and the co-ordinator of the event; and Mr.Anil Kathuria, Head of the Mathematics Department.

The event commenced with the welcome felicitation of the guests by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar. She spoke about TEDx as a platform to express ideas, build networks and hone our skills. The guests comprised Ms.Nandini Harinath, scientist, Mission Planning and Operations Division, ISRO Satellite Centre; Ms.Archana Sardana, a skydiver, mountaineer, Scuba diving Instructor and India’s first woman BASE Jumper; Ms.Neeti Palta, a standup comedian; Ms.Devika Gupta, alumnus of DPS R.K.Puram and founder, Peer Support System; Ms.Dhwani Nagpal, alumnus, and student, Jesus and Mary College; Abhi K Ruparelia, student of Carmel Convent High School, Gujarat; and Soham Dalwani, student of Sanskriti School.

An interesting video highlighting the importance of the talks in the contemporary world was shown to the audience. All the speakers in the current event were stalwarts – founders of organisations and highly accomplished people, sharing their views on topics like ‘The Bathroom Network’, ‘Mars Orbiter Machine (MOM)’, ‘The Ideas Toolbox’ and ‘Journey to Standup Comedy’. Autism, the Economics of humanity and Visual impairment were some of the other issues raised during the talk. The speakers supporting the event from DPS RK Puram included Aditya Joshi, Ambuj Sen Patra, Apekshita Alkesh, Ananya Kapoor and Anoop Kumar.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Tanmay Bansal, the student-in-charge. The audience was urged to follow the ideals of TED with ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’.

Ordin@trix 16.0 Interschool Tech Competition was held at Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar on the 2nd of August 2016. Shivin Uppal (XI-P), Stuti Banga (XI-X), Akshay Khandelwal (XI-K) and Shaurya Jain (XI-L) took part in Movie@trix (Movie Making). They made a video on the topic “Technology as a medium of peace” and won the 3rd Prize. Shivin Uppal and Stuti Banga, who are members for the Expressions Theatre Club, were actors in the movie. Their video was about a man Pranay Jain, who committed suicide after being forcefully evicted from his residence; and the subsequent role of technology in promoting his cause and the eventual withdrawl of all other forceful eviction notices issued.

The students of the Expressions Theatre Club participated in a National Level ‘Nukkad Naatak’ competition at Mount Carmel School, Anand Niketan on Thursday, 28 July 2016. A team of ten students comprising Navya Kumar (XII-O), Ramit Sharan (XII-W), Isha Jerath (XII-P), Bineet Kaur (XII-E), Stuti Banga (XI-X), Mohammad Osaid (XI-T), Mehvash Saiyed (XI-U), Arnav Singh (XI-K), Shivam Chopra (XI-P) and Asmita Khanna (XI-Q) bagged the third position. The students had prepared a ten minute Street Play on ‘Social Consciousness’ – bringing social injustices like child labour, corruption and female foeticide to the fore, highlighting the need for the people to be socially aware and actively resist such social injustices. The team was accompanied by Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee, the Teacher-In-Charge, Expressions Theatre Club.


The students of Expressions Theatre Club participated in the Inter-school Ads Act Competition at Delhi Public School, Gurgaon on Wednesday, 27th July 2016. A team of five students comprising Geetansh Sahni (XII-P), Ritvik Khanna (XII-P), Tanoy Majumdar (XII-M), Dyujoy Majumdar (XI-G) and Niket Khadagawat (XI-E) bagged the second position. The students had prepared an advertisement on the topic, ‘Gadgets binding Family’.


The All India Inter School Maths Talent test was held on 23 January 2016 and the result declared on 21 July 2016. The test was held in Manav Sthali School, Rajender Nagar. It was for classes VI to XII. Approximately 40 schools participated in it.

Two students of DPS R.K.Puram – Rudraksh Agarwal (VII – B) and Advitya Singhal (VII – B) won the Bronze medal and a Certificate of Appreciation.

The test was in the form of multiple choice questions and contained questions of arithmetical and logical reasoning.


Amity International School, Mayur Vihar organised a Western Music Competition ‘Crescendo’ at the National level on 21st and 22nd July 2016. The categories were Solo, Duet ,Group song and the Band. There were 19 schools that took part and DPS R.K.Puram came third in all the categories. Udbhav Seth got the best keyboarder prize.

An Interschool Commerce Festival ‘ECOMM-PARV’ was held at Delhi Public School, Gurgaon, Sector 45.
5 events took place out of which 2 were online and one was onsite.

In E-Rebranding, the :students of our school ,Paridhi Aggarwal, 12-U & Amitosh of 11th grade won the 2nd position.

In Treasure Trove, (Surprise event) : Ashna Chawla , Sonali Jawa (12-R) & Saatvik Bansal (12-T) won the first prize In Ads Act , Geetansh Sahni , Tanoy Majaumdar, Dyujoy Majumdar , Ritvik Khanna and Niket Mandawat won the second prize.
