DIGEX 2016

Digex, the photography club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized its annual symposium on Saturday, 14th May 2016, in partnership with Canon. Digex, short for ‘digital excellence’, is the photography and film-making club, founded in 2009 by a group of photography enthusiasts. The event saw active participation of 50 schools across Delhi and NCR.

The Chief Guests for the occasion were Mr. Andrew Koh, Vice President, Consumer Imaging and Information Centre, Canon and Ms. Sandhya Chauhan, Regional Business Head at Canon India. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan; Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and coordinator of the event; and the Digex Incharge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal extended a warm welcome to all present and emphasized on the importance of participation over winning. This was followed by a short movie on the achievements of the Digex Club and a mime act performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. The Chief Guest, Mr.Koh addressed the gathering and expressed his views on the art of photography by saying -’photography is visual art’.

The event comprised of 4 competitive events, ‘A!SNAP’, ‘Freeze the Second’, ‘Click-a-Boo’ and ‘Frame-by-Frame’. The Canon team organized an interactive workshop, ‘Photo talk’ for teachers and students.

The judges of the events were Mr. Jasminder Oberoi, Mr. Nitish Pandey, Mr. Bharat Singh and Dr. Amit Chawla- representatives of the Canon India Team.

In the results tally, the ‘A!SNAP’ event was won by Presidium Gurgaon, while DPS. R.K. Puram and Step by Step had a tie for the second position and Apeejay Pitampura bagged the third position. Step by Step won the first prize in ‘Freeze the second’, followed by DPS Sushant Lok and Banyan Tree in the second and third place respectively. ‘Click-a-Boo’, which was a surprise event, was won by Ryan International Public School, Mayur Vihar, the second position was bagged by Amity International, Mayur Vihar while DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Noida had a tie for the third prize. DPS Dwarka secured the first position in the ‘Frame by Frame’, online movie making event followed by DPS Gurgaon Sector 45 and DPS Rohini in the second and third position respectively.

The event concluded with a mime act and AdsAct performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. A token of appreciation was given to the representatives of Canon Team India. The Chief Guest congratulated the school on the success of the event and mentioned that DPS R.K. Puram had become a part of the Canon family. Ms. Sandhya Chauhan , Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and Ms. Sarika Kaushal, Digex Incharge were present for the Award Distribution. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Sarika Kaushal.
The event served as an effective platform for all photography enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.

The students of Expressions Theatre Club participated in the Inter-school fest, ‘Rendezvous’ at Air Force Bal Bharti School, Lodhi Road on Thursday, 5th May 2016. A team of five students comprising Geetansh Sahni (XII-P), Tanoy Majumdar (XII-M), Kanav Sahni (XII-U), Suvansh Manektala (XI-S) and Arnav Singh (XI-K) bagged the third position in the event, ‘Ad-Clad’. The students had prepared a three minute advertisement on the topic, ‘Ensuring a Safer and Risk Free Environment for Women’. They sold the idea of a ‘magic society’ where all women can be safe. The judges praised the team for their exceptional communication skills, stage presence and innovative approach towards the theme. They were accompanied by Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee (Expressions Theatre Club In-Charge) who also mentored them for the same.


Interschool Chemistry Symposium- ‘Effervesence’ held at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi

Effervescence’, The Chemistry Club of Modern School, Barakhamba Road organised an inter school chemistry symposium – ‘Ignition 2016’ – Igniting Young Minds , on Tuesday, the 3rd of May 2016.

Four events were held namely :

1) Quizanium

2) Jam (Just a minute)

3) Chemamalgam (Poster Making)

4) Chem Magic

Seven students from classes Xth to XIIth participated in the above four events and Aryaman Dubey and Dev Shaurya Singhal of XII-O were declared 2nd Runners Up in the activity Quzanium. They were accompanied by Mrs Anju Sachdeva.


Friday, 22 April, 2016.

Students of DPS RK Puram participated in various events of” Capax Infinitum” organised by DPS Sector 45, Gurgaon. The event was attended by a 12 member student team and the accompanying teacher was Mrs. Suruchi Bhardwaj.

DPS R.K.Puram bagged the following two Positions –

The Humming bird organisation had organised a national level Hindi Olympiad in DPS RK.PURAM in November 2015. 250 children from 6th to 10th had participated in this Olympiad.

8 students won Gold medals, 14 students Silver and 14 students won Bronze medals. These students have made the school proud.

In April 2016, the organisation announced the result and and gave the prizes.

The Indian Meteorological Department,held an inter-school level competition (NCR) on Slogan Making and Speech on the occasion of Earth Day – 22nd April, 2016. Ananya Reddi of 10 G won the third prize in the speech competition on “Caring Mother Earth” She received a certificate and cash prize from the Director General IMD.


This year three teams from Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram qualified as Summit Diplomats for the Innovation Summit of Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge 2016. This contest is annually organised by the NASA, SpaceX, Sigma Xi, Lockheed Martin, and other prominent companies and puts high-school students in the shoes of researchers, asking them to innovate, conceptualise, research and design products and systems which can contribute to a better world. The Summit leads students to seed funding grants, patent support, business services, scholarships and other opportunities. The students who were selected for this Summit were Apekshita Alkesh, Ananay Arora, Danish Bansal, Tanmay Bansal, Avi Chandra, Shagun Goel, Shreyas Kishore, Pranshu Malik, Hibah Mirza, Aditya Sengupta, Dev Shaurya Singhal and Rajwardhan Singh. They got the opportunity to meet and interact with leading entrepreneurs, government officials, and scientists in a collaborative, social forum.

The teams from our school were selected in categories of Energy and Environment as well as Aerospace and Aviation and were invited to compete in a residential programme at Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA from 20th April to 24th April. The students were accompanied by Mr. Subodh Kumar, who mentored them alongwith Mr.Ajithkumar K.G. throughout the project.


On 30th April 2016, DPS Bulandshahar had organised the National Language Festival. 6 students of DPS RK.Puram took part in this competition.In the self composed story writing category, Pranav Bhutani of 8-F won the first prize..

In the Urdu speech, Uday Bansal of 11-O won the consolation prize and in the Urdu ghazal singing, Taneesha Wadhwa of 7-F won the consolation prize.


Delhi Public School R.K. Puram wins Gayatri Devi Goenka Memorial Cultural Festival

Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram has bagged the first position in the Indian Dance competition held on the occasion of Gayatri Devi Goenka Memorial Cultural Festival at GD Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj on 28th April 2016. The team presented a beautiful dance choreography based on the three Indian dance forms – Kathak, Chhau and Odissi.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram participated in “Convergence 2016”, the competition organised by The Air Force School, Subroto Park. The event took place over two days, 26th and 27th April 2016. The competition comprised three categories, namely, Debate, Quiz and Creative Expression. The central theme of the event was “ Feminism in the post-modern age”. 35 schools from all over Delhi participated in the competition. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was among the six that qualified for the final round.

The DPS RK Puram team consisted of Ankita Gupta (XII O), Bansari Rao ( XII F ), Vasudha Rajgarhia(XII E), Angelina Dash( XI W) and Shivin Uppal ( XI P). At the end of the competition, Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram bagged the First prize in the Creative Expression category( Angelina and Shivin) and the Runners up in the Quiz (Ankita, Bansari and Vasudha).

DPS R.K. Puram was adjudged the over-all Winner.


GD Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, organised a cultural festival “Goenkan Grandeur 2016-17” on 29th April 2016. In western music, for the students of classes IX-XII , there were solo and band categories. There were a total of 15 schools and DPS RK Puram got the following prizes:

On 29th April 2016, 197 students of class 11th and 12th from the biology sections visited AIIMS, New Delhi during their annual program ‘Catalyst 2016’. In the three hour long compact program, the students were shown a demonstration of life saving techniques such as Cardio Pulmonary resuscitation, ALTS and CLS. They were exposed to the anatomy of the human body and physiology experiments measuring various parameters such as BP, ECG and so on. A brief session IOTA-2016 on how to crack IIT and AIIMS entrance examination was also conducted.

Students interacted with undergraduates of the institute and satisfied their queries regarding medical profession, human pathology and stress of examinations.

The registration fee paid by students was donated to orphanages like Angel’s Home Orphanage, Chattarpur to improve primary education and medical facilities for them.

Mr Mukesh Nagpal, Ms Pinki and members of the Biology department including Mrs Kusum Yadav, Mrs Shalini Chanan, Ms Kajal Sethi and Mrs Sushma Sardana, the program coordinator accompanied the students.

While interacting with students later, the Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal and the Headmistress, Mrs Anita Singh stressed on the importance of having more such exposures for students to make the learning of biology more interesting.
