DPS RK Puram wins International Space Settlement Design Competition in NASA

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 9, 2018:

It was all celebrations at DPS RK Puram when the team of 12 students along with advisor, Ms Rupa Das, arrived at the school after winning the prestigious International Space Design Competition in NASA as part of the winning “Grumbo Aerospace” team.

This is for the first time the school has won this renowned competition where 30 reputed schools with brilliant students from around the world participated. After winning the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition in January 2018, DPS RK Puram students were invited  by Anita Gale, co-founder, Space Settlement Design Competition, to represent Asia at the International Space Settlement Design Competition at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA.

The team comprised  Ananya Ashta, Bhavya Khandelwal, Kushagra Gupta, Mehek Manish Shah, Natasha Arya, Shiv Sethi, Shrijita Anand, Udit Malik, Vinamr Loomba Sachdeva, Gunjan Anand, Aditya Vikram Singh and Tarun Patra, from classes X, XI and XII.

The students were given 43 hours to prepare a presentation on the theme, Settlement on Moon in the year 2043 which involved various aspects of planning a settlement on the lunar surface, from developing structures to requirements like power and water, cost of development etc. A comprehensive corporate proposal had to be submitted.

The team was paired up with high school students from the US, the UK, Australia, Argentina and Uruguay to constituting to the company “Grumbo Aerospace”, with NASA engineers acting as the CEOs and advisors. After a gruelling 43-hour final, working on a moon surface city meant for research into terraforming, the company emerged as international winners.

During the competition, the students also got a chance to attend technical sessions organised by NASA & Boeing engineers involved in known space missions — the Space Shuttle and Apollo programmes — such as Norman Chaffee and Anita Gale.

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 9: It was a pride and celebratory moment at DPS R K Puram when the team of 12 students alongwith their advisor, Ms Rupa Das came to the school after winning the prestigious “International Space Design Competition in NASA as part of the winning “Grumbo Aerospace” team. Sharing their success and the experience with the media, the students enthusiasm and confidence knew no bound. This is for the first time the school won this renowned competition, where 30 reputed schools with brilliant students from around the world participated.

After winning the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition in January 2018, DPS RK Puram students were invited by Ms Anita Gale, Co founder, Space Settlement Design Competition, to represent Asia at the International Space Settlement Design Competition at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA. The team included students from Class Xth, XIth & XIIth namely a team of 12 members comprising of Ananya Ashta, Bhavya Khandelwal, Kushagra Gupta, Mehek Manish Shah, Natasha Arya, Shiv Sethi, Shrijita Anand, Udit Malik, Vinamr Loomba Sachdeva, Gunjan Anand, Aditya Vikram Singh and Tarun Patra

Before leaving for USA, the team visited the Honorable Vice President of India and the Chief Minister of Delhi to seek their blessings.

The students were given 43 hours to prepare a presentation on the theme, “Settlement on Moon in the year 2043”. “It required Not only great intellect but also other important skills like team work, practicality, sincerity, hardwork and a will to succeed. This award, thus, means a lot for the school”, said Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Principal, DPS R K Puram. Quoting Paul Brandt “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon”, she further added candidly.

During the competition, students also got a chance to attend technical sessions organized by reputed NASA & Boeing engineers involved in known Space missions —the Space Shuttle and Apollo programs— such as Norman Chaffee and Anita Gale.



NASA में छाए दिल्ली पब्लिक स्कूल के छात्र, सभी देशों को पछाड़ बने नंबर वन

नई दिल्ली। नासा ने आयोजित किए इंटरनेशनल स्पेस सेटलमेंट डिज़ाइन कम्पटीशन में दिल्ली पब्लिक स्कूल आरके पुरम के छात्रों ने पहला स्थान हासिल किया है। छात्र मुकाबले में विजेता टीम “ग्रम्बो ऐरोस्पेस” के सदस्य के तौर पर शामिल रहे।

इससे पहले इस साल जनवरी में  छात्रों ने एशियन रीजनल स्पेस सेटलमेंट डिजाइन कम्पटीशन जीता था। इस अभूतपूर्व प्रदर्शन को देखते हुए 12 सदस्यीय टीम का चयन इंटरनेशनल स्पेस सेटलमेंट डिजाइन कम्पटीशन में एशिया का प्रतिनिधित्व करने के लिए किया गया।

जुलाई के अंत में हुआ प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन

यह प्रतियोगिता नासा के कैनेडी सेंटर में आयोजित की गई। प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन जुलाई के अंत मे किया गया था। बता दें कि इस प्रतियोगिता में हिस्सा लेने से पहले छात्रों की टीम उपराष्ट्रपति वेंकैया नायडू और दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल से मिलने भी पहुंची थी।

कई देशों के साथ कंपटीशन में थे भारतीय छात्र

प्रतियोगिता के दौरान छात्रों को नासा द्वारा आयोजित टेक्निकल सेशन में मौजूद रहने का मौका भी मिला। विजेता टीम में भारतीय छात्रों के साथ अमेरिका, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, यूके, अर्जेंटीना, उरुग्वे के छात्र भी शामिल थे। विजेता टीम का नाम “ग्रम्बो ऐरोस्पेस” है। दो दिनों से भी कम समय की मेहनत के साथ छात्र विजेता बनकर उभरे हैं। छात्रों ने ‘मून सरफेस सिटी’ विषय पर काम किया।

‘छात्रों की प्रतिभा को दर्शाती है यह प्रतियोगिता’
इस प्रतियोगिता में छात्रों की सलाहकार रहीं रूपा दास का कहना है कि यह छात्रों की बहुत बड़ी उपलब्धि है, जिसने हम सभी को गर्व का अहसास कराया है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर इतनी बड़ी प्रतियोगिता जीतना छात्रों की प्रतिभा को दर्शाता है।

प्रिंसिपल वनिता सहगल का कहना है कि सबसे खुशी और गर्व की बात यह है कि छात्रों ने जो हासिल किया है, वो खुद की बदौलत किया है। हमने और शिक्षकों ने बस सहयोग किया, बाकी सब छात्रों की उपलब्धि है। यह न सिर्फ स्कूल बल्कि देश के लिए गर्व की बात है।
