The annual Psycho-Socio festival ‘Mosaic – Patterns of Life, 2013’ was held at DPS R.K.Puram on 23 August 2013. This unique festival aimed to provide students from 42 distinguished schools with a platform where they could mix the thrill of competition with a great learning experience. The event commenced with a scintillating Kathak performance. The judges were Ms. Koval Bhatia, alumni of DPS R.K.Puram who has a production house called ‘A Little Anarky Films’, Mr. Pranav Dewan, the chief creative officer at Dr. Hunt Advertising, Ms. Bhavna Sabherwal, recipient of the ‘Teaching knowledge test’ certificate from the University of Cambridge, UK and Ms. Archana Gupta, an artist with more than 20 years of experience. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, welcomed all the guests.
Mosaic was an amalgamation of three events: Mind games-the Psychology and Sociology quiz; Canvas, the Poster making competition and Showcase, the Psycho-Social analysis of a movie clip. The psychology quiz covered a wide range of topics from neurotransmitters to disorders like Locura. The sociology quiz challenged the participants’ ability to analyze various theoretical, pictorial and audio-visual questions. In the showcase event, the contestants were required to bring out the psychological and sociological aspects of different movie clips through oral presentations. The movies dealt with issues like poverty, sexual harassment etc. and the topic for the poster making competition, Canvas, was ‘child abuse’.
The closing ceremony comprised a medley of all time greats performed by the school band. The judges commended the efforts of the participants. For the showcase event, the runner up prize went to Laxman Public School while the first prize was awarded to DAV Public School. The second prize for Canvas was awarded to DPS, Faridabad and the first prize was bagged by Springdales, Pusa Road. In the psychology quiz, the second prize went to DPS Gurgaon, Sector – 45 and the first prize was won by Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj. For the sociology quiz, the runner up prize was bagged by Vasant Valley School and the first prize went to Ramjas School, Pusa Road. DPS Gurgaon, Sector- 45, bagged the rolling trophy.
The event went a long way in broadening the horizons of students with respect to psychology and sociology, not only as subjects in the curriculum but also as disciplines. The co-ordinators of the event were Mrs. Vithika Rahul and Dr. Rita Khanna, Heads of the departments of Psychology and Sociology respectively. It was a truly enriching experience for all the students.
