‘KAVYANJALI’

Under the guidance and motivation of Dr. D. R. Saini, the Principal of Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram, the Hindi Department of the school organized an interschool competition titled – ‘Kavyanjali’ which included poetry recitation, Ghazal and Qawwali contests on Friday, 31st January 2014. The Chief Guest for the event was Mrs.Mridula Garg, a renowned writer, who was recently felicitated with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award. The Head of Department of Art, DPS R.K.Puram, Mr. Biplabi Samaddar, presented Mrs.Garg with a portrait of her, made by him. The Head of the Hindi Department, Dr. V.D. Aggarwal introduced her to the audience. Stressing on the importance of Hindi, our national language, Mrs Garg exhorted the students to cherish it as it had deep cultural roots.

A lamp lighting ceremony took place upon the arrival of the judges and they were presented with mementos. The event was split into three categories; the first being ‘Prerna ke swar’ which was judged by the famous writer, Mrs. Usha Mahajan and Shri Ashish, a journalist and poet. Prof. Aqil Ahmad, Secretary, Ghalib Academy and Mrs. Anita Seth, a Ghazal singer judged the second event of the evening, ‘Ghazal ke Saaye’. Concluding this cultural extravaganza, was ‘Qawwali’, judged by media person, Mr. Anurag Dhanda and music director, Mahesh Prabhakar.

A literature-based notable competition with the participation of sixteen schools, it was a breathtaking experience to see each and every child exhibit a unique talent. While the poetry recitation of each student was engaging, the melodious voices of students singing ghazals mesmerized everyone. The aim of the function was to inculcate cultural values and the importance of Hindi in young minds. The show was the combined effort of all the teachers of the Hindi department and volunteers from classes IX to XI. The concept of ‘Kavyanjali’ was visualized by Ms. Fatma Kirmani, Hindi Co-ordinator, DPS RK Puram.
