Ishq-I-Dilli:A visual portrayal of the 7 cities of Delhi – If India is the body; Delhi is the soul

The History Club under the aegis of Department of History, D.P.S. R. K. Puram organized an exhibition to portray the 7 cities of Delhi through the medium of breath-taking sketches, drawings, water colours and photographs, on January 27, 2014. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini and the esteemed Chief Guest, Mrs. Purnima Datt, INTACH. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Professor Narayani Gupta, an expert on the city of Delhi; Dr. Sandhya Dwivedi, ASI; Mrs. Shubra Tandon, Sanskriti Foundation; Prof. Amitabha Bagchi of IIT Delhi (hosts a web page ‘writing on Delhi’) and an alumini of DPS RK Puram & his spouse Mrs. Ratika Kapur Bagchi, both of whom are writers of best selling novels ; Mrs. Shamika Goel; Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta and Headmistress, Mrs Anita Singh.

The exhibition portrayed a glimpse of the 7 ancient cities of Delhi, namely, Shahjahanabad, Firozabad, Shergarh, Siri, Tughlagabad, Mehrauli and Qila Rai Pithora. Photographs clicked by Aditya Mehta, a student of class XI, were displayed alongside sketches and drawings by Tarang Kaur, Divya Sinha, Nanki Singh,Vrinda Baheti,Raghavi Bhatia, and Sanyaa Mehrotra. The intricacies captured by the students were remarkable and appreciated by all. “The points of view displayed by the students are unusual. Exhibitions like these are just the beginning ,”remarked the chief guest. The Principal praised the idea and the awareness being spread and said “We need to understand our past to acknowledge our present and look forward to our future.”
The idea of capturing history through photo stories and history walks was ground-breaking. All in all, the exhibition was a success and the hard work and effort put in to capture the intricacies and details were admired by all .
