22nd August was a red- letter day for DPS R.K. Puram as it hosted ‘Mosaic- Patterns of Life, 2012’, an interschool psychology and sociology fest. The event is one of its kind. 43 schools from all over Delhi participated in it. A scintillating dance was performed on ‘Ganesh Vandana’. The events were judged by Ms Koval Bhatia, an alumni of DPS RK Puram , who runs a production house called ‘A Little Anarchy Film’; Sri Satyendra Prakash, Deputy Director General, Prasar Bharti; Mr Sumit Saurabh, a successful travel photographer and Ms Bhavna Sabharwal, art consultant and coordinator of Sankriti gallery. Mr.Vinod Sharma, Principal of DPS Panipat was also present on the occasion. The Principal of DPS R.K.Puram, Dr.D.R.Saini and the Vice Principal, Mrs.Shobha Mehta welcomed all the guests and the judges were felicitated with flowers.
The program included Mind Games, the psychology and sociology quizzes. The Psychology quiz consisted of three rounds. Each round contained questions that were conceptual rather than based on rote learning. They included case studies, pictorial and audio-visual questions. The sociology quiz consisted of two rounds. The questions were based on different dimensions of the Indian society including religion, tribes, movements etc. In the ShowCase event the contestants were required to bring out the psychological and sociological aspects of different movies using movie clips and oral presentations. The movies dealt with topics such as domestic violence, psychological disorders etc. The third event, Canvas, was a poster making competition. The topics included homophobia, female infanticide, drug abuse etc. These competitions exemplified the creativity and zeal of the participants.
The closing ceremony commenced with two outstanding performances by the choir of the school and a soothing classical piano composition. Mr. Satyendra Prakash stressed on the importance of such events that encourage the film industry to produce more films on socially relevant topics. For the showcase competition, the runner up prize went to Sadhu Vaswani International Girls School and the first prize was awarded to Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan. For the poster making competition, Springdales School, Pusa Road, won the runner up and the first prize was bagged by Sanskriti School. In the Psychology quiz, the runner up was awarded to DAV Public School, Gurgaon and the first prize went to DPS Dwarka. Finally for the Sociology quiz, the runner up was awarded to Ryan International School, Rohini and the first prize was won by KIIT World School. The Rolling Trophy was bagged by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan.
The event was conceptualized and coordinated by Ms Vithika Rahul and Dr Rita Khanna , Heads of the departments of Psychology and Sociology respectively. It was a truly enriching experience for all the students.
