INTER-SCHOOL FRENCH COMPETITION

Le Crayon D’Or, the French Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized ‘La Fête De la Francophonie’ on 17th December 2014. The aim of the event was to celebrate the French language and culture, which has become an integral part of the lives of many enthusiastic students. 21 schools from Delhi-NCR participated in the various competitive events organized by the club.

The programme consisted of three competitive events- ‘L’Art Dramatique’, the Skit Competition; ‘Les Voix De La Poésie’, the Poetry Recitation Competition and ‘Raconte-Moi Une Histoire’, the Story Writing Competition. In the Skit Competition, the participants were required to present a 5 minute long skit on various proverbs such as ‘Il ne faut jamais dire jamais’ (Never Say Never) and ‘Tout est bien qui finit bien’ (All’s well that ends well). The Poetry Recitation was a competition where students recited poems written by renowned French poets. Finally, in the Story Writing Competition, participants were required to write stories based on pictures provided to them.

The Chief Guest for the valedictory was Mme. Caroline Schmitt, the Attachée for Cooperation in French language at the French Embassy. The judges’ panel included highly qualified laureates of the French language from various prestigious educational institutions. Also present on the occasion were the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; the Headmistress and Head of Department of Foreign Languages, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; the Teacher in-charge of the French Club, Ms. Nita Vijay Kumar and all the teachers of the French Department.

The ceremony commenced with a mellifluous rendition of the French song ‘Je t’aime’, accompanied by a ballet performance. This was followed by an event report, summarizing the various events of day. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all the participating schools. The members of the Dance Society enthralled the audience with their scintillating dance performance on a medley of French songs. The winning teams from Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj and Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram took to the stage to present their acts. The Chief Guest, Mme. Caroline Schmitt spoke about the importance of learning a foreign language and how it can change the course of one’s personal and professional life. The new edition of the annual French Magazine ‘Le Crayon D’Or 2014’ was released.

In the prize distribution ceremony, Delhi Public School, Indirapuram were declared the overall winners. The Poetry Recitation was won by Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, while Delhi Public School, Indirapuram came second and DPS International, Saket stood third. Delhi Public School, Indirapuram won the first prize in the Story Writing Competition, followed by Mothers’ International and Delhi Public School, Rohini in second and third place respectively. The Skit Competition was won by Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, while the second and third positions were bagged by Step By Step School, Noida and DPS International, Saket respectively.

The Headmistress and Head of Department of Foreign Languages, Ms. Vanita Sehgal delivered the vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with the national anthems of both France and India. ‘La Fête De la Francophonie’ was an enriching experience for all students and is expected to be the commencement of a new annual tradition at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram.
