Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the National Finals of the Inter-DPS Western Vocal Music Festival on 19 December 2014. A DPS Society initiative, the event saw the participation of 12 teams which made it to the National Finals after the zonal rounds all over India.
The chief guest was Ms. Renu Mital, Director of DPS Society. The panel of judges comprised Mr. Abhishek Rai, Director and Faculty of Guitar, Western Vocal and Theory at Musicians Stop; Mr. Ritesh Khokhar, Senior Music Consultant and Educator; and Mr.Stephen Marazi, a well known figure in the field of music in New Delhi. Also present on the occasion were the Principal, Dr D.R.Saini; the Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta; the Vice Principal of DPS Shiksha Kendra, Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal; the Head of the Department of Music, Mr. Rajesh Upadhyay and the Western Music teacher, Mr. Dominic Paul.
The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the guests. The Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta, extended a warm welcome to all, and spoke about the beauty of music. Dr. D.R. Saini, along with Ms. Renu Mital, the Chief Guest, unveiled the newly introduced Rolling Trophies. The event consisted of two categories- the solo and group performances. In the solo performances, participants performed on the theme ‘Childhood’, while the theme for the group performances was ‘Peace’.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Renu Mital talked about the unity and togetherness that the DPS Society embodies. The Judges shared their views on the performances. In the valedictory ceremony, glimpses of the event were shown to the audience, followed by the winning performances and the prize distribution ceremony. Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj bagged the Rolling Trophy in the Solo Category, while Delhi Public School, Noida and Delhi Public School,
R. K. Puram stood second and third respectively.
Delhi Public School, Dimapur, Nagaland won the Rolling Trophy in the Group Category, whereas Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj came second and Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram emerged third. Mr.Rajesh Upadhyay delivered the vote of thanks. The program was a great a success and exciting experience for all music enthusiasts.
