The Inter DPS Indian Classical Orchestra Festival 2014 was held at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on 23rd December 2014. 15 schools from across Delhi and the NCR participated in the competition. This new initiative of the DPS Society offers talented students an opportunity to showcase their musical skills.
The chief guest for the occasion was the Chairman of DPS Society, Mr.V.K.Shunglu . Various dignitaries present comprised Mrs. Renu Mital, the Director of the DPS Society; Mr. Pramod Grover, Vice -Chairman, Managing Committee, DPS R.K. Puram; Professor B.P.Khandelwal, Member DPS Society and Managing Committee, DPS R.K.Puram; Mr. Pramod Grover, Vice -Chairman, Managing Committee, DPS R.K. Puram and Honorary Treasurer, DPS Society; Mr.Ashok Chandra, former Chairman, DPS Society and the Principals of various DPS schools. The guests were welcomed by the Principal of DPS R.K.Puram, Dr. D.R. Saini; the Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta; the Vice Principal of DPS Shiksha Kendra, Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal and the Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh. Pandit Prateek Chaudhari, a Sitar maestro of the Senia tradition; Ustad Manju Khan , a famous Tabla player of the Ajrara Gharana and Shri Mahesh Prabhakar, a famous film score director and show industry veteran of 35 years, were the judges of the competition. The various teachers of the music and dance departments were also present.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the judges. Mrs. Renu Mital unveiled the rolling trophy and welcomed all the participating schools. A short video clip on various Indian Classical Music maestros was screened. The musical performances by all the participating schools in the various timeless traditions of Indian Classical ‘Ragas’ and ‘Taals’ left the audience enthralled and asking for more. This was followed by a mesmerizing performance by the music teachers of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram with Mr. Kuldeep Mishra on the tabla and Mr. Saleem Kumar on the sitar. Pandit Prateek Chaudhari Ji shared his views on all the presentations and emphasized the importance of music in our everyday lives.
The highly anticipated valedictory followed with Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram winning the first prize, while the second and third positions were bagged by Delhi Public School, Rohini and Delhi Public School, Noida respectively. Several scintillating group and solo performances by various schools on themes ranging from ‘Peace’ to ‘Childhood’ left the audience spellbound. The winning acts from Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram; Delhi Public School, Rohini and Delhi Public School Noida were presented once more to thunderous applause.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
