Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted Infinitus Reus 2018 – an Annual Interschool One-day Quizzing Festival hosted by the school’s Quizzing Club, on 21 July 2018.
The event, sponsored by Liberty Shoes Ltd. and Ivy Achievement- Export Admission Consulting and co-ordinated by the Club’s Teacher-in-Charge, Ms Suchitra Radhakrishnan, aims at bringing together the best minds in the NCR quizzing circuit for a confluence of competition, brainstorming and entertainment. The club, founded in 1983, is the school’s oldest and most prestigious club.
A total of 41 schools, represented by 141 teams, turned up for this event, described as a “Quizzing Extravaganza”, which was to be conducted by top quiz masters, Bharat Kashyap and Aneesh Gupta, Alumni, DPS R. K. Puram.
The Opening Ceremony announced the commencement of the Preliminary Round for both the Junior (6-8) and Senior (9-12) categories. Students were guided to the respective venues for this 1 hour, objective, Paper-Pen test, which consisted of 25 questions on numerous topics including, but not limited to popular culture, history, sports and technology. Sheets containing multifarious questions pertaining to the listed topics were answered by students in groups of two.
After a gratifying refreshment break and several donuts, students cheered as the answers to the First round were announced.
The 6 qualifying teams in each category were invited to the stage. The Final Round consisted of 2 rounds of 16 questions each, with the “Infinite Pounce and Bounce Throughout” system in play. The beauty of this system is that it allows everyone to answer every question.
The Valedictory Ceremony began with full fervour with a red and gold classic Ganesh Vandana dance performance, followed by a mood lifting upbeat rendition of a Hindi song, “Ashaein”.
The Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal, in her address to the audience, thanked everyone for being there. She marvelled at the efforts of the children and valued the magnitude of the event. She congratulated students who had won the quizzes and spoke about how the Junior Library could incorporate quizzing sessions for students. She spoke about the importance of imbibing lessons from every experience of life. Acknowledging the hard work put in by the Quizzing Club in making the event a success, she called Ms Suchitra and her student team up on the stage and felicitated them by requesting a huge round of applause for their efforts. She concluded by saying that one learns something from every event.
The Chief Guest, Mr Ramesh Sadhu, CEO, Liberty Retail Revolutions Ltd., was felicitated with a token of regard by the Principal. In his speech, he acknowledged how great this occasion was for him to be at the greatest institution of the country, how Delhi Public School had become a force to be reckoned with. Taking a trip down the memory lane, to the time when he visited the school in 1999, he was impressed by the quality of education. He said that he was overwhelmed by the progression in concept, culture and capacity of the school. He remarked that no one is a loser in such a competition, everybody gained knowledge from it. He wished the students best of luck for a bright future and advised them to become pillars of the society.
Ms Suchitra Radhakrishnan conducted the most-awaited prize distribution ceremony. The Principal, the Chief Guest and Mr J S Virdi, HOD Physics, handed out the trophy and certificates to the winners alongwith the prizes- speakers and headphones.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms Suchitra and the event concluded with the National Anthem.
