DPS R.K. Puram celebrated Independence Day with a special assembly. The event began with a morning prayer by the school choir, which was followed by an address by the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini. An eleven member delegation from the Rosier School of Education, University of California, on a visit of the school, was also present on the occasion.
The Head boys and girls and Presidents of the various school councils shared their views about India in the global scenario. The school choir sung various patriotic and national songs such as “Vande Mataram”, “Des Mere” and “Sare Jahan se Achha”.
The hall resounded to the mesmerizing tunes of “Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna” which was accompanied by both Indian and Western instruments. Members of the cultural committee performed this song. They went on to sway to the tunes of “Maa Tujhe Salaam” by A.R. Rahman. The Principal announced the top sixteen school appointments of the various clubs. He talked about the importance of democracy, equality and freedom in modern India.
The assembly ended on a note of national pride and honor with everybody rising to sing the National Anthem.
