Independence Day 2018 Celebrations

The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated by the students and staff members of DPS RK Puram with full patriotic fervour on 15 August, 2018. The event was graced by the Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal, Vice Principals, Dr Renu Nayyar, Ms Padma Srinivasan and Ms Anita Singh and Headmistresses, Ms Rashmi Malhotra, Ms Archana Pental and Ms Dolly Chanana. The enthusiastic students displayed their talent and passion for the country through a wide range of activities and competitions judged by the esteemed alumni and teachers.

 

The celebration commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony, where the National Flag unfurled with a shower of rose petals and the soul stirring National Anthem which was followed by the release of beautiful  tri-colored balloons.

Ms. Vanita Sehgal, in her inaugural address started by referring to Tryst with Destiny, the speech given by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, at the stroke of the first midnight hour of independent India. She mentioned the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and the unsung heroes who laid down their lives for the freedom of India. Exhibiting her pride for the nation, having seen it grow and reach phenomenal heights, she spoke about the role every citizen plays in the growth of a nation and also the feeling of pride of being an Indian. She thanked all the teachers and every person who made this joyous occasion a grand success. She ended her speech by wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day.

A plethora of events were scheduled with feelings of patriotism running high in the audience. The cultural programme started with the school choir’s melodious rendition of various patriotic songs. A short play, dance performance by students of  DPS RKPuram and MCD School Sector 12, left the audience awestruck. The show culminated with the school choir singing ‘ Ae Watan’, electrifying the atmosphere. Thereafter, Vice Principals and Headmistresses wished everyone and shared their thoughts on what independence means to them.

This was followed by a host of events hosted by a variety of Departments in which students from all classes participated eagerly.

The English Department organised an English Quiz for Classes VI-VIII, which was an exciting blend of idioms, popular fiction and tongue twisters. The Turncoat Debate for Classes IX-XII saw dynamic students indulge in debating over the topics provided.

The Hindi Department organised ‘देशभक्ति पर आधारित कविताओं का पाठ  ‘ for VI -VIII and ‘ दो विपरीत चरित्रों द्वारा बातचीत – आमना सामना ‘ for Classes IX – XII.

‘चरित्राभिनय ’ for Classes VI-VIII & ‘संस्कृत प्रश्नोत्तरी (व्याकरण एवं साहित्याधारित) ’ for IX and X were conducted by the Sanskrit Department.

’Struggle for Freedom’, an On- the- Spot Painting competition was hosted by the Fine Arts Department.

The Performing Arts Department organized ‘Jashn- E- Azaadi’ a music and dance competition in which students of all classes participated. The event saw a huge turnout from students wanting to showcase their talent.

The Mathematics Department conducted Mental Maths and Jumbled Series quizzes. Quiz Masters examined the students on logical reasoning, mental abilities and problem solving capabilities.

The Science Department conducted a Quiz for Classes VI- VIII and Presentations for Classes IX-XII. The Quiz was an exciting affair with a ‘Bounce and Pounce’ preliminary round and Picture based final round.

‘A Celebration of Diversity’ : Card-making Competition for Classes VI-VIII and a ‘Display of traditional attires over the ages’ was conducted for Classes IX-XII by Social Science Department.

The Sports Department made its contribution to the event by ‘Athletics and Swimming Competitions’. Certificates were presented to all the participants and medals to all the winners.

The students participated in the wide range of events with a lot of enthusiasm and their performances were widely applauded. The celebrations stirred feelings of patriotism and nationalism amongst the audience gathered.
