Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the G. Bhaskar Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony on 9th December 2014. The programme is an annual event hosted by the school in fond memory of G. Bhaskar, an ex-student who passed away at a very tender age. An extremely talented and hardworking student, not only did he excel in academics, he was also an exceptional badminton player and also had formal training in Classical Carnatic music. He could also recite several chapters of the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita. From the year 1999, the school has instituted this award in his memory. It is a cash award given by G.Bhaskar's family to exceptional students who not only excel in academics and co-curricular activities but also display a strong moral fibre.
The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini; the Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta and G. Bhaskar's father, Mr. Ganapathi Rama were present during the ceremony. The ceremony began with a minute of silence observed in G. Bhaskar's honour. Representatives from Iskcon, The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Shri Ajita Govinda Das Ji and Shri Pandava Prema Das ji and others, were also present. The presentation on the theme of the Bhagwat Gita and its relevance in everyday life was given by Shri Pandava Prema Das Ji. He emphasized the importance of faith and vision and how they can change the quality of one's life. The Gita depicts the journey of the individual to spirituality. Shri Ajita Govinda Das Ji put forward the ideals of the Bhagwat Gita which highlight the eternal journey of the soul.
Mr.Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Computer Science Department conducted the award distribution ceremony along with the Principal, Vice Principal, G. Bhaskar's father and the representatives from Iskcon. Twelve students of the twelfth standard were felicitated for academic and extracurricular excellence. The ceremony ended with the Principal addressing the students, followed by a few words of wisdom from Mr. Ganapathi Rama, who stressed upon the importance of being receptive to the thoughts and opinions of those around us.
