Exun Clan, the computer club of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, conducted its 17th interschool symposium on 10-11th November 2012. Over 60 schools from Delhi/NCR battled it out over 14 events in IT related areas covering Programming, Quizzing and creative events.
The symposium began with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, the Guest of Honour, Ms. Shweta Khurana, Head of K12 Education for Intel in South Asia and Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of Department of Computer Science and founder and in-charge of Exun Clan.
A welcome video was played, highlighting the activities that would take place over the next two days. Rohan Nagpal, President and Ishita Batra, Honorary Advisor, Exun Clan welcomed all the participants and traced the development of Exun Clan over the years. Dr.Saini welcomed all the participants. During her address, Ms. Shweta Khurana presented a video on Intel’s vision for the future of education, which received a huge round of applause from the audience. The students were enthralled to hear that she came from a world where a tiny speck of sand went on to become a silicon chip.
The first day’s events consisted of Group Discussion, Swat the Bug, Digital Imaging, Web Designing, and Hardware and Benchmarking, as well as the preliminary rounds of the Senior and Junior Quizzes, Crossword and Gaming. Programming, A/V editing, Magnum Open and 3D Modelling, along with the final rounds of the Senior Quiz, Junior Quiz, Crossword and Gaming, took place on the second day.
A new addition to this year’s meet was MagnumOpen. The event aimed to test the participants’ ability to master any software and create something creative and unique in a short period of time. The theme of MagnumOpen 2012 was Game Making – a first-of-its-kind event that tested the participants’ originality to the limit.
Sudocrypt, an online cryptic treasure hunt and another Exun Clan innovation, emerged in its second iteration this year. Conducted on 6-8 November, it saw participation by over 1000 people from more than 15 nations. The top 25 on the leader board were awarded certificates for being ‘Sudo-experts’, and the top three were also given prizes sponsored by Avit Digital.
Eeshita Bajpai and Ishita Batra, Honorary Advisors to Exun Clan, presided over the closing ceremony at the end of day 2. Mr. Mukesh Kumar warmly thanked the judges, the participants, teachers, and all members of Exun Clan. The Principal, Dr. Saini, congratulated everyone on a successful symposium and shared his thoughts about the events. He also presented mementoes to the judges of the various competitions, all of whom were Exun alumni.
The winners of the individual events were then announced and felicitated. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was declared the overall winner. However, as the host, the school was non-competitive and awarded the prize to Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj.
It was a great experience for all the students and they carried away fond memories with them.
