Exun Clan, the Computer Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted its 22nd Annual Inter-School IT Symposium ‘EXUN 2017’ on 25-26 November 2017. The event was sponsored by Ivy Achievement, Oxford University Press, Bennett University, Sony, PlayStation, Avit Digital, USA UnivQuest, Manzil Motors and Skiron Gaming.
Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Computer Science Department and teachers of the Department along with a small group of computer enthusiasts started Exun, short for ‘Experts Unlimited’ in 1992. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs which gives students an opportunity to showcase their talent in the field of IT. Exun believes that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which captures the essence of their motto “We, not I.”
This year, with over 1000+ registrations from 51 schools, Exun along with Domain Square+ (Gaming Club), RoboKnights (Robotics Club) and Cub XL (Cubing Club) organised 16 different IT events including an Online Cryptic Hunt – Sudocrypt.
The symposium pre-started with Sudocrypt, held over 2 days having over 1000 participants and 40,000 submissions from 15 countries. The team behind the hunt reinvented the idea by adding fresh features like an automated hint system and SudoQuests, which were applauded by the participants.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by an inauguration. Present on the occasion were the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principal, Ms. Anita Singh and Mr. Mukesh Kumar along with his team of Computer Science Teachers and technology support staff. The Guest of Honour for the event, Professor Suneet Tuli from Bennett University, was felicitated by the Principal.
The Introduction Video for Exun 2017 was presented by the Exun Clan, providing a briefing about the particulars of the event.
The Principal, Ms. Sehgal, addressed the gathering exhorting them never to forget the human touch in the era of advancing technology. She quoted, “Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.” She also acknowledged the loyalty of the Exun alumni and admired the participants for their talent. She praised the club and said that the club was a concept started in 1992, when there was no club in the school and today we have 40 clubs in the school.
The Presidents of the Exun clan and Domain Square+ also addressed the participants, talking about the changes the symposium saw from its past iteration.
On this occasion, Exun released its 12th issue of the Annual Magazine – “UnderScore” – which was also a green move to reduce papers by reducing the articles requiring 80+ pages to 24 pages by introducing QR code for each article, where these QR Codes were linked to full articles present on the website.
The first day included the prelims of Domain Square+ Gaming, Cubing events, RoboWars, Group Discussion, Line Follower, Junior and Senior Quizzes and Crossword along with the finals of Competitive Programming, Delhi-NCR Jr. Gaming Championship.
The second day included Build Pitching, Challenge Programming, Hardware and the finals of Senior Quiz, Crossword, Domain Square+, Delhi NCR Gaming, Cubing Events and RoboWars.
The Closing Ceremony involved the display of a line following robot by a member of RoboKnights. The constant guidance and support of Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Mr. Mukesh Kumar and the entire Computer Science department was acknowledged.
The Vice President and the Honorary Advisor expressed their sentiments regarding the family that is Exun. The event was empowered with the presence of 22 alumni, which is the highest till date. The Alumni were presented with mementos and they were all given the recognition that they deserved as DPS RK Puram is immensely proud of what they have accomplished and all that they contribute to their alma mater and the club.
The results of the Cubing 3×3 were as follows: Hans Raj Modern School bagged the first position, and was followed by DPS Vasant Kunj and St. Marks; Pyraminx was won by Bluebells School International, and DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Rohini came second and third respectively. Hardware was won by DPS Vasant Kunj, and was followed by Universal Public School and DPS Dwarka. DPS Dwarka came first in Group Discussion, and DPS International Saket and Mothers International came second and third respectively. In RoboWars, Modern School Barakhamba Road came first, Ahlcon Public School and Delhi Public School, Dwarka came second and third respectively. The Shri Ram School, Aravali bagged first position in Programming; DPS International, Saket came second and DPS Dwarka came third. DPS Rohini, DPS Vasant Kunj, and Modern School Barakhamba came first, second, and third respectively in Crossword. In Junior Quiz, DPS Noida, DPS Dwarka and DPS Rohini came first, second and third respectively, while Ramjas School, RK Puram bagged first position in Senior Quiz, and was followed by DPS Noida and DPS Dwarka. Domain²+ Gaming was won by DPS Sushant Lok; DPS Rohini and Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute came second and third respectively. Modern School Barakhamba came first in Mx+C and was followed by DPS Noida and Bal Bharti Pitampura. The results of Build were as follows: DPS Dwarka won Design Imaging, and DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Noida came second and third respectively; DPS Dwarka bagged first position in Audio Editing, while DPS Vasant Kunj and Green Fields School came second and third respectively; in Video Editing, Sudocrypt, an online global event, was won by Sparsh Tyagi, while Arijit Gupta held second position and Sidharth Trehan came third. The Surprise event was won by Shri Ram School, Moulsari; New Era Public School came second while G.D.Goenka, Vasant Kunj & DPS International, Saket came third.
The winners were also given special prizes powered by the sponsors. DPS Vasant Kunj was adjudged the overall winner. The first overall runner-up was DPS Dwarka while the second overall runner-up was DPS Noida.
Mr. Mukesh Kumar concluded the Symposium by thanking the alumni judges,participating students and teachers of all the schools, partners, the Exun team of teachers and students for making the occasion such a grand success.
